Yet another camera thread: Good Buy, 40D?

The *new* *improved* OMO! :D

Thanks ldmelsa - I've programmed your settings into one of the user defined sets so I'll see how it goes. I can always slip into RAW+JPG mode.

lol - I'm no authority on camera profiles. I just do this for space reasons.
I'm sure you and I will get better results shooting raw. I just like to stuff around with settings. I use jpg normal, not fine. That way I save even more space. I get 1000 shot on my 2GB card that way.

The *new* *improved* OMO! :D

haha
funny man
I should have seen it coming! :p

Ok... lots of office reading tomorrow.

Hows this for a good buy, D450 @ R8,000. And yes, I probably know its not a good lens, but it leaves me with change for a decent lens.

Recently released but looking back. . .
The 40D feels better in my hands, and more solid than the 400D
The 450D isnt going to feel much different than the 400D that you didnt want . . . several shops have the 450D - I'd at least see how they feel first.

Going to go do that tomorrow... but I like the idea of the grip... I think that might solve my feel problem..

You recon the price is good though?

Price seems pretty fair for SA - is the grip available in SA yet?

Not sure - I'd have to find out.

But I dont mind waiting a bit... I just need to get a camera ASAP, considering mine goes to my brother tomorrow.... is the 450D weather sealed?

Can't remember if the 40D... I'm going to have to do some home work at the office.

My other option was a Nikon D80...

That's not a bad lens at all, especially not for that kind of money. 70mm is just somewhat narrow on a crop - you're going to need to add something to it. Here is another one in that range.

[snip]

The 450D isn't, the 40D is. It's not 100% water proof. Especially around the buttons it is vulnerable. If you want water proof, get this one or this one.

Another interesting read - this bit is especially sad (about a trip to Antartica):

One person was shooting film, with a Mamiya 7 II, but since his luggage was lost on the way to Argentina he only had 3 rolls of film for the entire trip.

The thing I like about the 450D I mentioned on BoB is that it comes with a local warranty.

Oooh, now you have no ratings to look at :) But at least, assuming you're in CT, you can go have a look and kick his arse if he tries to BS you :p

Yup... thats the point.... I don't mind doing a cash deal... face to face...

I can also get his number plate, etc....
