No luck with any of these? http://www.e18error.com/repair.html
How did it die?
I'm probably going to offload my 400D to a friend and get a G9 to carry around. Was a really nice camera - I think I need two now, an SLR and a small Ixus, I can't always cart a SLR around with me.

the G9 is much flatter than the older models and can easily fit in my pants pocket.I've looked at the G series before, I ended up getting the Panasonic FZ20 because it was about R2000 cheaper back then.
The G-series is a bit to big though as a carry around camera.... The Ixus is perfect because its so small, I always have it on me... or used to anyways.

Maybe you saw a 40D? The 400D retails for much much less these days. (About r8k with printer, memory card and assorted software)Ok I'm a total noob when it comes to these SLR's, but I saw a 400D the other day and it was like R19000. WTFIs that the best one on the market? Why is it so damn expensive? Is the quality really that good?
IMO not enough to warrant the r12k price difference - esp for an amateur like me.Yes, you're right. It was the 40D I saw. It's available at Makro .
What's the difference between the two?

EDIT - Side by side
Of course it's just my opinion but I'd rather spend the money on better glass than a better body especially if I was just starting out. Look after a lens and it will last decades. Thanks, I'll have a look![]()

The 40D is high grade consumer model. Most pro's that I've come across shooting canon seem to have the full frame 1D or 5D models.Yeah, but it costs R10000 more. That's a lot of money. Is this the camera that professionals use or are the other, better models?

I'm not saying the 40D isnt a better camera than the 400D - I'm just not worthy of it![]()
http://www.sacamera.co.za/product/351/Canon-Top-Range-DSLRs.html . . . and keep in mind a pro will have more than one.I don't even want to imagine how much those cost

You also have to understand that local prices are astronomical - you could probably fly to the states and save money buying them there.
