I see alot of threads about CTI and their degree ... while I don't know what they truly offer compared to regular universities ... I am interested to know the starting salaries that CTI people get when they graduate from there (after 1-2 yrs) ... surely can't be the same as a person that studied a 3yr degree (or with Honors)?

while I am done studying (quite a while back) ... it would be interesting to know what people's starting salaries were (in year started and salary format) ... also state how long it took you to get a job after graduating as well

if the thread is too public for you, pm it to me

Took me about 4 months to find a job after my first year(There inhouse job placement is rubbish). Studied project management part-time. 3rd year is too damn expensive R50k + 1000 pound entrance fee.

I took what I could get for my first job R7k p/m. 1 and a half years later I'm at my 3rd job earning more than double that.

CTI was the worst experience of my life. It's a rip off and their admin and way of dealing with students is utter rubbish. Rather go to a varsity. I went to CTI bedforview btw.

I agree 100%, their admin and general support to the student is very bad. To me they came across as a money making machine, get as many possible students in and force them out as quick as possible on the other side.Well I reckon it's still a business but still. I've spend about R42000 in 2000 for a year course at CTI Durbanville back then. Now I'm in construction :D

The best is to go to varsity and do a proper degree..imho.

I went back in 2000, never ended up in Programming, my first job actually was in Telecoms.

Atleast at 7k you got what they promised, was this before or after you completed project management?

Had a developer on staff that studied at CTI he was beyond useless, didnt even understand the concept of if statements and boolean operations.

Hmmm how did he pass your recruitment process / interviews then?

My thoughts aswell, sounds a bit dodge that someone with so little experience will land a job as a developer. Most high school IT students understand if statements correctly.

Just another cti hater(not that I'm a cti lover) and this is why cti diplomas are regarded the way they are in the industry. After reading a post like this most people will never hire anyone from cti

My Experience with CTI - Did the 3 year course + honours (BSc information systems and engineering) when they were accredited with London Metropoliton University (This is true, i contacted london met and they have me on record saying i completed my BSc with honours).
Few things i hated was:
Admin of the staff
EXPENSIVE like a bitch.
Lectureres are absolutely useless
Courses are not as in depth as a varsity course is

Few good things - during my 2nd year they encourage you study part time + work. I got 7 interviews via CTI's agency and i got a job during my 2nd year.
3rd year i studied full time, the practical was quite a lekker learning experience as you have to do a full on project manager role as well as development + documentation which helps broaden your views.

I got a job 1 month after i finished studying - the 1st interview i went to.
after 2 1/2 years i resigned looking for greener pastures - went for 1 interview and got the job.

I think a lot comes down to the individual as well, CTI is a very individual based college (what you put in is what you get out) - almost like a special school :)

For the price you pay for a year or two at CTI you can get a proper 3 or 4-year degree from a university instead.
Nobody ever wonders if a university degree is an okay thing to have.
Do yourself a favour and just go the university route. Uni's also have career placement centres that can help you find a job when you're done studying. They also encourage people to get practical experience and get jobs while studying.

There have just been so many horror stories about the private colleges that I can't believe anybody still goes for them. There are never horror stories like that about proper universities.

He was hired as a junior(thus they did not give him a test) , prior to me joining the company. I dont hate CTI, i just wouldnt advise it to anyone.

All good, wasn't trying to offend you or your company just wanted to point out that something must have gone horribly wrong for you end up with such an idiot. Would love to know how someone like that slipped through cti's system. I know its not quite uni but cti isn't a walk in the park.

Nice to hear that someone Has made it after cti. I agree with you 100%, the piece of paper showing you know a bit more than a matric student only helps you so much, I've read about quite a few people high up in the industry who have no qualifications. It's no secret that you will never stop learning and there are no diplOmas or degrees for experience.
