Can you please stop punting Hunthey PSUs. There are better alternatives.

To the OP - you do not need the Z68. Only difference it will make to your life is that you can use the onboard GPU, which you cant do on the P67. But will you really ever use the onboard? Exactly, so P67 is for you
 
Okay, so I'll stick with the P67 chipset then since the Z chipset is not worth it. Now for the CPU cooler. I am quite set on the CM Hyper 212 Plus, it is very affordable and is great bang for buck. I read up on www.overclock.net about different fans/heatsinks and they also rate it very highly. Zalman...I know they make lekker copper bases and such, but OC.net does not really mention then so I do not know how they perform. Are they in the same price bracket as the CM?
 
Bang for buck you will not get better than the Hyper 212 or Cogage True Spirit. Other more expensive coolers (such as some of the new Zalmans) will get a couple degrees lower temps, but at a much higher cost. So you decide, lower temps + high price OR low temps + low price
 
Archer....there is NO onboard on the Z68X-UD7-B3 motherboard....its a high end platform for Sandy Bridge. Gigabyte Scraped the P67-UD7 for the Z68 Chipset. This board has no GPU output on it.

If i was punting a power supply i would punt the Antec 1200W i have in stock (23) because they are moving slowly. Its good to make people aware that their are other great options other than the usual. I was 1 of those who never looked past Corsair.
 
If u want a Cheap awsome CPU cooler look at Zerotherm ZT-10D Premium. Its on par with the Thermalright Silver Arrow. The Zalman is really good ask Kuga his PC is running @ 5ghz 24/7 @idle temps of 30deg and underload 75 deg

Sigh... Go read up on Z68
Or go look at the pictures here which shows a Z68 motherboard with display outputs. Hence, Z68 allows you to use the onboard (CPU) graphics. Or dont you remember that all SB CPUs have a GPU in them?

Just because Gigabyte has left out the display connectors does not mean that the actual chipset does not provide support for display outputs.

Nice strawman there. You did not address my argument.

H67 = use of discrete graphics, no OC
P67 = no use of discrete graphics, can OC
Z68 = H67 + P67 = use of discrete graphics + can OC

PS - isnt selling goods that are still under NDA illegal? Hope you made you clients sign NDAs as well.

If u read my earlier posts u will see what i have mentioned. The gpu controller is disabled.
 
Guys theres alot more to the z68 than whats on the spec sheet.
In laymans terms one could even call the p67 the BETA for the z68.

They had alot of issues and bugs during the development of the p67, including the most publisied one: that sata issue which mobo manufacturers where able to work around with the b3 revision.

the z68 chip supports the cpu's onboard grafics yes, but it also has a range of other small tweaks and fixes they implemented. aswell as cache support for SSD's.

The z68 is the natural successor to the p67(which will be discontinued) to not get it
if its availible to you, is silly.

I'd still wait till there was a decent variety of mobo's with it availible before snatching up the first one though.

In which case, why wouldnt he go for a P67 that he can get today???????????? There is no inherant "ZOMG Z68 can OC super l33t." The extent of OC capabilties has little to do with the chipset and more to do with the power stage on the motherboard
 
Most of the manufacturers are going to follow suit in this trend to use the Z68 chip because of its extra features and makes more sense when designing for various versions with or without onboard output for GPU.

The OC has alot to do with the chipset! If the chipset cannot support an adjustable clock scew for the south bridge to be in sync with the 2600K at high speeds u will never get it stable even if u have 32 phase designed board. The phasing is to provide u with enough constant power for when u are running low voltage @ high overclocks to keep temps down on air. If u are using LN2 the hip needs to be very good to get stable even using an SSD.
 
Yes obviously the chipset does matter for OC, but in the context of P67 vs Z68 what is the difference? None as far as I am aware.
 
If he needs the pc NOW, then go p67, otherwise if you can wait just hang around a bit and see how the z68 chipsets will square up...
 
I will be putting the order through next month or even the end of May if I'm lucky. So whether I will wait for the Bulldozer chips and the new Intel chipset or just buy it now will remain to be seen

Well then you can take your pick between P67 and Z68. Dont think Bulldozer will be ready by then, launch date is only ±20 June iirc

Actually, thinking about it, Z68 is launching late, so you might run into stock issues with that

Okay so some folks say that Z68 is worth it, some say the differences are neglible. I for one won't bother with the integrated graphics, if I need to use a low-power PC I have my little laptop that is sufficient. Also, OC'ing is not of such a big importance to me. I'd much rather buy a new motherboard/CPU bundle when the i5 get's a bit long in the tooth :)

P67 it is then. Z is just going to be more pricey especially by that time and after the launch I'd say the P would either become EOL like suggested or just price dropped. Go P67 then
