Yet another PC build thread! :)

Wabbit what GFX are you gonna use?
K I'm gonna go with the GTX570, I was wanting to get the 560 Ti but I thought let me maar push and get the GTX570 instead. Only thing is the lack of video memory compared to the ATi ones, but I don't really know if that will make such a big difference, especially since I am not going to be gaming on a big screen (at least not until September)

The GTX570 will serve you well...

I think so too, but now I just have to figure out how long the card is - it's apparently a tight fit inside the CM Scout case *eish_mode on*

I think I'm just going to move the updated rig here so that people can comment on this
So far, I have come up with this (revised list):

Prices attached are the prices from Rebeltech as of 10 May 2011 - just for interest's sake.

*Intel Core i5 2500K - R1,805.08

*CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus - R253.76

*Asus P8P67-M Pro Motherboard - R1,457.95

*Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM Modules PC10600 - R507.53

*ASUS GTX570 1280MB 320Bit GDDR5 - R3,824.42 (I actually want the EVGA unit, as it has a 10 year warranty - also a bit cheaper[R3,369.56])

*CoolerMaster Storm Scout Chassis - R717.00

*Corsair TX650 PSU - R836.70

*Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM HDD 1TB - R500.00 (on special ATM)

*Samsung 22x SpeedPlus SATA Lightscribe DVD-RW - around R200 (Lite-On unit is R166.38)

Total cost: R 10068.82 with the Asus GPU, and Lite-On DVD-RW
R 9613.96 with the EVGA GPU and Lite-On DVD-RW

These totals are without shipping

I have sorted out what I would ideally want - and this build comes in at a smidge under R10'000. I guess I could leave out the HDD for now since I have one at home, but I would like to start afresh with this build rather than introduce 2nd hand parts from my other PC's. Woot woot!

EVGA doesnt offer 10 years warranty outside of USA/EU do they? But its still cheaper (and made to the same standard) so I'd still pick EVGA over Asus

On the Rebeltech site:

EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD 1280MB - 320-bit, 732MHz Clock, 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 Memory 3800MHz, 480 Cuda Cores, 2 x DVI-I Connector, 1 x Mini HDMI, Display-Port, PCIe 2.0, 10 Year Warranty

It is prolly only valid in countries with better power than we have here anyways :D

But if the difference between them is a few frames per second, and it's so much cheaper, why not? Then I can maybe push for a modular PSU instead or put the money towards games :P

Wabbit16 i see you are from PE? I can sent a demo rig to test if u like.

PM me your no

Hi Chris, I'm actually in Grahamstown at the moment, I just keep on forgetting to update my profile :$. I used to stay in PE, and I go there often. I work in Gtown and stay in PA

*Goes off to update profile*

They are wrong unless they have prebought the extended warranty (I find that unlikely) as they have this model number listed - Model: 012-P3-1571-KR. Check the EVGA site. Products with a -KR indicate 3 year warranty UNLESS you have bought extended warranty.

If u can find Palit GTX 465's let me know. It has to be the twin fan design because i can mod the card back to GTX470 and you will be able to run sli and stil come in at a price cheaper than the GTX570. It willout perform the GTX570 by far. And you will be able to run Nvidia Surround.

@Chris, I sent you a PM but you cannot receive them at present.

Also, I'd like to steer clear of the 4xx cards as they were a really hot-running series and the refreshed 5xx series might have better feature sets.

@Archer, thanks bud, that makes sense. So it *should* be the standard 3yr warranty. THe price drop is enough justification though, maybe then I can save up and buy a SSD sometime in the future.

One last question - I have heard some say the GTX570 will not fit inside a CM Scout chassis, and others confirming it. Does anyone know first-hand if it will in fact fit?

Its should fit... space available = 280mm, GTX570 = 267mm

Sweet, was just reading the specs online and they also said that it would fit. Thankfully the PCI-E power connectors sit along the top of the card and not along the sides

Had that issue with my 5850.HDD bays were in the way of my 2x 6 pin connectors being on the side.So I took out one bay....

Wow, I never realized the 5850's were so large. Fred from Libertas PC also recommended me the GMC H-80 which seems like a good buy for the money

Why don't you go for a SATA 6G HDD, since you have the available ports. ? - they are basically the same price.
I personally find the new 6Gb/s drive much more responsive than those "crappy" hybrid drives.
