Yet another poorly written News24 article?

Can someone clear up for me:
1) Did the driver stop the train
2) What was the reason for the train stopping? Was it because a red light was missed, or communication problems?
3) Is it just me or is this article confusing and contradictory?

I can't really understand it either, it seems to be poorly translated from the Beeld.

It seems the train driver blew a red signal which probably triggered the brakes automatically.

The passenger said Spoornet sent a team of technicians to check the brakes and the railway tracks before the train was allowed to continue its journey.

The had to inspect all the brakes and the track because of the emergency stop. I guess it took so long because it happened in the middle of nowhere?
