Hi all,

I had this weird experience over the weekend when I bought a 1GB PPDB from Vodacom. I loaded it, logged onto Vodacom4me, dsconnected and then sent an sms saying 'balance' to 100.

Got back an SMS stating that I had 1017MB left. I thought this to be a bit strange, as V4ME certainly doesn't use up 7MB. But I left it at that.

About an hour later I reconnected, surfed a bit (used about 2MB) and then resent an SMS 'balance' to 100. This time I had 1022MB left!

How does that work? On contracts it takes a few hours for the data counter on V4me, but surely pre-paid should be real-time? Did anybody else ever notice an inconsistency like that?

Regards,
JJF.

When you connect, they 'take' a block of your data, when you disconnect they 'give back' what you haven't used.

That seems to be the prevailing opinion.

You saw the reservation system working. I've seen my own pre-paid sim drop suddenly by a large amount, it basically reserves more data the more you work.

If you want PM me your data number (cell number you're using to browse) and I'll have it checked out in any case.

200MB data gone!

checked my remaining data on the vodacom4me website and it tells me i have 299MB left. Now according to the VMC usage ive only used 400MB.Being new to VC data this is not making a very good impression on me  . I understand that these are just estimated rates but it can't be 200MB out and if it is then VC should do something to solve this clear problem in the software.

Also after loading R289 airtime which i still have the sms to, i had R298.09 remaining on my account. Now minus 289 for the 1Gig bundle and i get R9.09. Vodacom4me says i effectively have R0.24 left on my account after successfully loading the 1gig (which i checked). Some resolution would be gr8

Any one else having this same problem?

Data just dropped 50MB again so i guess im sitting on 250MB missing?
...dropped another 100MB... getting very weird now

I use Netmeter to monitor my bandwidth & then check VC4 me the next morning, my usage differences between the 2 are never more then 2MB, usually to my advantage. Just make sure you set netmeter to only monitor dial-up connections otherwise it adds on network usage

have you maybe got a torrent link for netmeter?
will def be using it but looks like vc has restored my bundles. maybe something went wrong with the billing system

Problem is back.... Now im getting infuriated!!!!

Just got two sms's one after the other from vodacom... reads as follows:

1. Number: +27820099892
You Only have 3325365 bytes left before costs will be deducted from your call account

2. Number: +27820099892
Costs are now being deducted from your call account.

Now once again i am 100% sure this is uncalled for so go off to view my details on vodacom4me and what do you know: 0.00MB and my prepaid balance is now R0.00

So now im surfing "according to vodacom" for free as my account is empty and my bundles aswell.

All in all ive been robbed of 500+ MB data and R9.08 airtime. Was willing to let the R9 slide but since this is a second repeat in a matter of a few days i now want everything returned to me... and not returned what VC thinks i deserve... returned what i have not used and that will be according to my VMC usage log.

MTN expensive and slow but excellent service. not one problem. Vodacom on the other hand has dismal service . Think its time for HelloPeter

Pass me your data number, won't you?

Also, which APN are you using? internet, internetvpn, unrestricted?

Also, what happens when you disconnect and reconnect? What is your balance then?

And to confirm, this is on prepaid?

Yes, I've also had a problem (a bit more positive though). This is the SMS I was sent
"You have a 17 GB Data Bundles available which expires on the 2007-05-10."
Just a shame I've only got 2 days.

So that where all our missing data goes to... one lucky guy  just kidding

Okay now everything is slightly back to normal (data remaining still looks wrong) but they gave me my 24c back. Pfft... what about the rest?

Anyways what is it thats causing this because how am i suppose to tell how much data i have left if it keeps going up and down constantly besides having to put the sim in my phone and checking through the AT command because quite frankly i shouldn't be the one having to worry about that. They have enough revenue so they should hire competent technicians that can keep the internet system accurate and operational.

Could this maybe be Telkom's influence moving in?

I logged on for about 30mins this evening and "lost" 18megs of my allocated Megs for the month...I have a VC sim on contract with a E220 modem...at the moment i'm connecting using my virgin sim in my cell phone and the data usage is stable..So its nothing wrong on the PC's side...With my MTN sim as well I get normal data usage

What is astonishing is that I only visited this site with the pictures TURNED OFF...like I said I spent about 30mins visiting the forums

More of a shock is that even when I have no websites open the Dashboard is showing that the megs are running up at a average rate of 600-700KB's per minute...My browser is not even open...at this rate ill be outa Megs by Sunday

So my question to anyone from Vodacom is what is happening here? I'm new to broadband but even I know this cant be normal...I still have to get confirmation by going to VC4me...but I reckon the dash is fairly accurate?

Sincerely

Yes, the dash is accurate in showing real-time data throughput. It does have some issues with logging longterm use.

As the dash shows what's happening on your laptop and you are seeing some serious data usage, the logical conclusion is something is eating your data on your system.

Follow the advice in the links and see if you can find the culprit.

Still waiting on my prepaid balance to be fixed

@V3G.

Hi, my bundles seem to be fixed and thanks for that but im still waiting on my R9.08 that disappeared and please dont say that was used up @ out-of-bundle rates because we all know that wasn't the case regardless of what the system says as im sure thats wrong too given all the recent problems.
