From what I gather it looks to be a rebranded and slightly changed International Computer Driver's License (ICDL).

I did that in grade 9...was a waste of time. Most difficult thing in ICDL back in the day was doing a VLOOKUP in Excel.
 
Computer Applications Technology is a waste of a subject slot, taken but those who are too lazy to take I.T.
 
Lol, I think I know that kid. He was crazy smart the last time I saw him and that was like when he was 6 years old. Both his parents are Mensa members, explains a lot.
 
Yeah I did ICDL in school and it was a waste of time, pretty much the same sort of content in CAT by the looks.

There have been younger finalists in the actual programming Olympiad - not sure why seeing such for the "applications" Olympiad is so "surprising".

Well it introduces people to computers - excel, access etc. which most of us take for granted. There are a lot of children that don't have the privilege of having access to these computers and software at home (your maid's child for instance) but through this program they get exposure. Ending up being a secretary is one step up and one step closer to breaking the poverty cycle.

Still - a news article about a 15yo kid that officed better than an 18 yo. It's not really a massive achievement now is it? Anyway, in 3 years time when he is old enough and joins the forum and he reads this... lol n00b! :twisted:
 
I loved olympiads (not only the IT olympiad) in school, they really separated the naturally clever people from those who just study hard and get good marks.
