On the back of this recent thread, I was wondering what you would buy if money was no object.

Break it down to all the components like AV receiver, fronts, satellites, subs, etc (and if you really have to - cabling etc etc). If you have prices and/or links, feel free to mention/include that too

So congrats! You just won the lottery and shopping starts in 3... 2... 1... GO!

First thing I'd do is get a consultant to figure that out for me.

Clients don't always know what they want, and that's what consultants are there for :D

That said, I want something with crystal clear sound.
I'm not necessarily into boom boom, but clarity is a big plus for me.

Quite simple, I would build a double suspended suround sound mastering facility. Room within a room with sofit-mount studio monitors for LCR. Either something custom or a used set of JBL DMS-1 (probably K+H O300 or some ATC as DMS-1 are rare as hen's teeth).

I would build custom subwoofers into the ceiling or floor risers, incorporate bass trapping into the architectural layout of the room and litter the remainder of the room with diffusion panels.

For the source, I'd buy an affordable receiver with pre-outs and upgrade that periodically in stead of over-the top receiver that would be obsolete within a few years. I'd have a relay driven contractor at the L/R amp inputs to switch over to a dedicated stereo source.

Projection....the sky is the limit. Barco/Christie if budget allowed.

My needs are simple... if I could blow some savings on a stereo setup:
- Marantz stereo amp, along the lines of the PM8005
- Monitor Audio RX8 floorstanders (or the newer Silver R8's)
- I'd be fine with a digital source capable of FLAC playback
- A carpeted room with a couch and a large window looking out into the large garden, all to myself and solely for music appreciation.

:D

You guys are thinking too small.

I'd buy a house with a basement that is at least 6m by 8m. Or build one if I needed to. I'd put in airconditioning, a fake ceiling, and sound absorbing walls, maybe carpeted. Also some reclining leather seats.

Plus a 7.2 sound system, a curved screen and the best projector money could be. Plus a little room where my HTPC will go. Probably a PS4 too.

3x4k curved TV's set up in panorama with a beast gaming PC attached and a set of really good headphones in a small dark room with a bar fridge.

Those Nautilus setups are waaayyy too "bling" for my tastes. I just want my ears to feast, thanks. :)

This is a thread i can enjoy :D

Goodness where do i start, i'm an avid enthusiast. It will have to have B&W 802Diamond speakers or Nautilus (close to R1m for a pair)

Well firsly i would need to build the room...that alone is R100 - R200 000 on its own...

Mark levinson, and McIntosh equipment definitely

I would probably split it up - surround sound and 2channel stereo...

With that sort of money i would do Sonos throughout the house and at the lapa...

Sho it doesnt end :D

The first one with the Bogart film showing, is classy, but more of a "TV-lounge".

The 4th one is closer to an HT IMO, but that screen needs to be at least 50% bigger! :)

if WAF, money, and space were not an issue,

I have no doubt that the sound from these monstrosities are incredible, but I would never buy it. I like subtlety.

This is what I described to my wife the other day - but on a much smaller scale. The screen size is fine, but the levels look as if it differs by about 4 steps - I thinh 2 steps would be sufficient and I would replace the couches with comfy lazyboys
