I agree, the brand name MyADSL is very well known, I dont think it would be wise to change it.

My vote is for "MyBroadband", as it's not specific to any particular technology, hence a better brand for "marketing" what the site is actually about, especially to 'Joe Public' as opposed to the early adopter 'tech crowd' that probably constitutes most the current forumites (that's assuming you WANT to attract Joe Public and thus probably lower the S/N ratio of the forums ;). Anyway, as for the timing and w.r.t. changing a known brand --- if you're going to change the name anyway, then the sooner the better. Otherwise the 'deprecated' brand will continue to grow in the meantime, making the impact of a future name change worse than if it's done right away. It's better for people to start getting used to the new name already (that is if the name is going to change).

I'm not too bothered either way but I lean more towards the brand name side of the fence, keep it MyADSL (just looks and sounds way cooler!). Besides MyADSL covers more than just broadband so why not MyVANS or heaven forbid MyTelkom? ;)

I'd like to change my earlier vote. The question keeps popping up in my mind. At this time are any of the adsl packages really Broadband? I dont think so.

I know we're supposed to be getting 1mbs soon but the way I see it broadband is a fluid descriptor and Telkom seems to take pride in offering us a scraping-the-bottom-of-the-barrel-barely-broadband service.

Perhaps the MyBroadband and MyADSL should remain separate and the reason why could be publicized.

Aldo, because then we become relient on that domain and later on, when enough people are useing it, what stops them from taking it back?

And besides mybroadband alreayd points to the news website, and its not to difficult to find the forum from there.

You/we built a bloody good brand name and when I say www.myadsl.co.za it is all encompanssing in my mind. A bit like virgin, when I say virgin, (boy, I am opening up a can of worms with this analogy) I think trains, planes, gyms etc etc.

Momentum and all the other stuff said to keep the brand alive cos like it or lump it you have a serious brand name here. I hate to tell you this but you are too late to change it.

Wha about My-connie, (Ali-G style, respek) or My-connectionss (Barry Hilton style my cuzie)

Other things we need (whatever we go for) is a definition for Broadband, Regular product reports and so on. We shouldn't just be a forum - more of a communite helping people get broadband but with a forum to do that.

At the moment Telkom and co proberly just view us as another tech help forum with a couple of the people calling for cheaper prices - what we need to do is turn our selves into the broadband authority - we could give products ratings - companies (if the wanted to) could display that with their product.

Basically I think we should be more expanded - not just a forum.

Oh ja, I like MyBroadband :p

Correct me if I'm wrong but RPM & Beyers do the product ratings on Telkom ADSL offerings, MyWireless and iBurst + the ICASA hearings showed that we are not viewed as a " tech support forum ". And who the hell cares what Telscum think?

MyAdsl has become a wel konown brand name. Shouldn't be changed, me thinks.

Also Myadsl is short and sweet, Mybroadband is too long to type ......

I say stick with MyADSL, it would be just as dumb as changing Pretoria.. Its not a name anymore, its a entity with history :)

I am inclined to think the same thing.
You get used to names and they stick.

When someone asks me about problems with Wireless or whatever, I just say, go to MyADSL and post on the forums.

Perhaps RPM could run a ballot?

I would stick with myadsl, for all the above reasons. Its well-known now, and a change might not be wise.
However, there's merit in the earlier comment that we could make a big hooha about a name change, might be some mileage in that.
