EDIT: new requirements: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...anted-part-2?p=9912490&viewfull=1#post9912490

---

The last time I needed a laptop, you kind folk helped me pick one that I am still using to this day.
(HP Pavilion DV6-1130ei).
The time has come to replace it, and I need your help once more since I will pick something for the looks otherwise. Requirements haven't really changed from back then. Non-negotiables are a decent screen (size and resolution) and good keyboard (with number pad).

Unlimited budget (company paying)? :p

Company paying, but I wouldn't call it an unlimited budget :)
Let's say I paid probably more than the average when I got this laptop, and I've kept it in good shape for close to 4 years, so I'm not against going higher this time too if it's worth it.

Screen size? Min 15,6" or 17"? (HD)
Processor? i3, i5, i7
DVD-writer
HDD type (SSD or SATA)

1. I have 15.6" now, so either.
2. Um.
3. Yes.
4. Whatever is better. I have no idea.

Just get a netbook. All you do is type documents and browse the web anyway

Touchscreen?

Falls in the nice-to-have-but-not-a-requirement section. I was considering the notebooks that separate into a tablet, but I'm not sure if they're that good yet.

I would suggest sticking with Dell, HP or Lenovo tbh.. they have the decent corporate support options (NBD type stuff).

You could look at some of the new windows 8 tablet/laptops... but I doubt they're in a price range you would be comfortable with.

Actually the most pertinent question is roughly, what is the budget?

Ahhh ok,

See if you can get a vague handle on that.. then we can make better suggestions on how to spend your bosses money effectively :D

Vague, you say... How about under R10k preferable, but willing to go up to 15k if it's worthwhile (and I'm likely to get 4 years' use out of it)?

Perfectly vague enough :)

Now we have a benchmark to work around..
