Your help wanted

I will be. But there will be many times that I can't be. And for those times, I'd like the long battery life :)

Is 2.5 hours the most I'd be able to get out of it?

I recently bought an HP Pavillion DV6-1125ei from Incredible for R9,995.00 which I am really happy with:

# AMD Turion X2 64bit processor 2.2GHz
# 4096MB DDR3 RAM
# 320GB HDD
# LightScribe super multi DVD writer
# Integrated 802/11a/g/n WLAN
# Memory card reader and webcam
# ATI Radeon HD 4530 512MB Graphics Card
# 15.6" Diagonal High Definition HP Brightview Display with HDMI
# Windows Vista Home Premium
# 1 Year warranty

It is black with designs on the casing as well and the HP sign lights up like the macs which makes it stand out as well. The battery is great and they keyboard is full (i.e. it has the number pad on the right as well). It also has a touchpad for all entertainment functions which is pretty nifty.

Get this one. Those specs are awesome for 10k. Mac eat yer heart out.

Yes, good point, ask someone who actually has the computer. DJ?

DJ, how many hours can you use with your laptop before the battery dies??

I get two hours of battery life with the screen still on its brightest and hardly any power saving options switched on. I could probably get two and a half to three hours out of it with the screen dimmed and a few options switched on...

This is the only drawback with many laptops. I hate that it only offers a few hours. I would rather opt for more cells and get plenty of hours of battery life :(

What's the difference between the 1125ei and the 1120ei? I'm told the first has an AMD processor, and the latter has an Intel processor. Explain?

For your needs, there is effectively absolutely no difference regarding the processor makes considering you aren't planning to do anything very processor intensive. However I see that the Intel is a slightly slower processor though but again, I'm not sure you'd notice a difference.

The other difference is that the 1120ei has a smaller hard drive, has old technology RAM, and what looks like an older motherboard then as well. It's also R500 more expensive which I don't understand...

The HP Experience store in Sandton doesn't have the 1125ei... So how am I supposed to experience it?!
I asked them what the differences were between the 2, and was told it was only the different processors.

I once asked a saleman what a dual layer DVD burner was and he told me it was able to burn through the copyright of DRM protected music. He's a chop, and so is the person who told you they are the same. The differences are on their website.

Ask them what discount you get for being lied to...

Went through to look at computers (touch, feel, play, etc). I do like the HP Pavilion dv6-1125EI. They didn't have the Acer Extensa 5630G-662G32Mn - said they hadn't even received any stock yet; is that one fairly new?

What are the differences between the dv6-1125EI and the dv6-1130EI (I can see what the differences are; I need someone to explain what they mean).

I used to have an HP Pavilion, similar to this one.
# Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor 2.4GHz
# 2048MB RAM
# 250GB HDD
# LightScribe super multi DVD writer
# Integrated 802/11a/g/n WLAN
# Memory card reader and webcam
# nVidia GeForce9200m graphics with 256MB dedicated video RAM
# 14.1 WXGA FlushGlass display
# Windows Vista Home Premium
# 1 Year warranty

R10 995 at Incredible Connection - pretty sure you would be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.

Any chance your generous new boss would spring for a Mac?

Err... the price change overnight? Says R8999.

As much as I would love to sell you a laptop ;) ... go for the HP Pavilion at Incredible at that price ... I don't know anything that can top it in the price range.

You're a lousy salesperson; you're supposed to offer me another option at a better deal! :p

Ha ha ... if I had something cheap enough I would. The only stuff I have in that price range isn't as good. For a P8600 all the costs (nevermind selling prices) are over 10k :/
