Your ideal gaming Mac

I just wonder who these people are who would buy Assassins Creed for an iPhone?

I just don’t see the target market.

Or so we assume it will be the usual cross-platform licensing and you’ll be able to play it on iPad/iPhone and MacOS all while paying only one…in which case yes that’s a very different proposition.

The Steam Deck guys?

I think all Apple is doing here is priming the gears. If they do it going go head to head with consoles and PC, it won’t give them the same marketing edge. This way they can be seen as having a leadership position in something gaming related, giving them a positive brand association, while simultaneously getting developers used to their silicon and tools.

Then they’ll take on the consoles and PC.

There’s more to it, but I’m not confident enough yet to discuss. Need to check some facts first.

They are already way ahead of both console and PC with Apple Arcade in actual revenue.

They just need the market to start remembering and acknowledging this.

But if it’s the usual shared license I can see quite a shift happening here.

I could see a next gen Apple TV becoming the gaming platform of choice.

Apple wants AAA gaming back. They are building GPUs, they have a FSR/DLSS competitor, their own version of DirectStorage, the most important game engines all support Metal. VR is near.

Most importantly, they have money. So it’s going to happen, okay?

For starters in an esports focused MacBook Air , I want a high refresh display , lightspeed like wireless mouse tech, good positional audio (hello gaming AirPods) and a more durable keyboard. Please, no RGB.
The ideal gaming mac is of course an xbox series x

Asian countries mostly I would guess. One of the games shown was Honor of Kings, most played game in China. Another was a game made by the Genshin Impact studio, GI alone made $4b revenue in ± 2 years. Mobile gaming is massive there

Mobile gaming is massive but the west caught on long ago. I don’t think they’re targeting Asian markets specifically, a lot of that market is low cost, even the PC gamers are low-spec. Free-to-play rules for that reason too.

I still wanna know if it’s possible to game on a povo spec* M1 MacAir…

*8gb RAM, nothing more & nothing less
Yes. But the selection of games is currently limited.

The games coming to iPhone 16 will probably be available to play on the M1 as well without issue, so I think @SauRoNZA could be right.

You are misunderstanding what I’m saying I suspect.

I’m not questioning whether mobile gaming is massive or not, but rather if a full blown immersion title like Assassin’s Creed will gain traction.

Mobile games are very specifically designed for their mobile use case, a full blown console/PC title played on mobile doesn’t quite fit into that.

As someone who own two consoles already I can’t see why I would get Ass Creed in my phone.

Now if the license also works on my MacBook and/or iPad that opens some doors but even then I’d still go for the console versions.

So it would be a niche market to sell to if it’s iPhone only.

I think you are misunderstanding what I'm saying :) Those games are already on console as well, they're not mobile games as such. GI, Honkai, PUBG etc.

Well then see my edit, all the more reason it doesn’t make sense.

If they are on console why would I opt to play them on mobile instead for a guaranteed inferior experience.

So the market would be someone who doesn’t have a better alternative which seems tiny.

Pricing I guess will also dictate things. One would assume it will need to cost the same as the console/PC versions but then nobody will buy it…but if it’s cheaper it won’t make market sense.

GI and Honkai are very much mobile-first games.

Not for me either that’s for sure. But it will be interesting to see how single player games translate over, MP games at least usually have cross play between platforms so that makes it somewhat interesting
