Sup,

Eskom managed to take my PC out... Thanks guys...

MS-V076-04S RX1950Pro MSI RX1950PRO-T2D256E, 256MB ATI 16X PCI-E (DVIx2, TV-out) DDR3 256Bit, GPU Fan, Dual Mon Support DDR3

MS-7250-040 nForce570 MSI K9N Ultra-2F, MCP55P, 8CH Audio, Dual Gb LAN, RAID, No VGA 1GB FSB 1xPCI-e 16X, 3xPCI-e 1x, 3xPCI , 4xDual DDRII800, 6xSATAII DDR3

ADA4200/AM2D Dual Core AMD ® Athlon 64 4200+ 64 Bit, Windsor (2200mhz) 2x 128K L1, 2x 512K L2 OD Cache DDR3

What would you change with this setup?

I have a 1 gig of RAM left over from the blown box (2 x 512mb) and a striped RAID array of 2 x 160GB SATA

This all coms to about 4k. What would you change and why?

hope u got a nice powersupply :>> (i suggest big one)

Dunno what ram u had on yur old pc, but get the DDR2 667mhz ram. (big bandwidth diff vs the DDR2 533mhz and old DDR1 DDR400)

What is blown in the old box? I assume the power supply would act as a buffer for any surges and save the rest of the sensitive bits.

I don't use parts from power spiked boxes anymore.

They quite often seem to be Ok - but will cause you lots of head aches.

Lightning in my experience does more damage than meets to tests on PC's.

My advice: Scrap all, recover your data and start with brand new hardware.

get the 4400 (i got 4400) rather than the 4200.....not much more ? got double the cache

I know :(

I'm just trying not to deal with the fact that I'm having to part with all this cash just after getting shafted after the holiday season.

I could buy an elcheapo box as the hardest thing I'll be running is Visual Studio.... I just don't want to.

hope that's DDR2

with the amd's the extra cache makes a 3% difference at most, but most of the time it doesn't matter.

besides, they don't make the 4400+ in AM2 anymore

are you really going to buy an expensive ati non dx 10 card when in a couple of weeks nvidia are realsing their new entry level line of dx 10 cards?

how much is that vga card because 8800gts's go for around 4500-5000k

you do know that your raid array is now screwed

just to peek my interest... where are u getting ur supplies?? seems quite reasonably priced and im looking to build up a new pc too^^

HOWS about you get a core 2 duo e4300, a al cheapo graphics card and save for a 8600 ultra

I don't think the E4300 has been released yet (I'm willing to be corrected here ;) ) From what I've gathered, it will cost only a fraction less than an E6300 (both are clocked at 1.8GHz, but the E4300 uses 800MHz PSB, while the E6300 runs at 1066MHz PSB). If you shop around a bit, you could get an E6300 for under R1 800. I've ordered one for my new PC - outperforms the AMD chips by miles. :D

E4300 is an extreme overclockers wet dream, have seen over 100% overclocks so far. Who needs an X6800 :)

Ha for the price I'd rather just get the E6300.
Sure thee E4300 clocks well, but so does a Pentium4 D805 so do Athlon64 3000+ CPUs. Should you get an E4300 and aboard that won't go the distance, then you're screwed, maybe a chip with a really low FSB wall. Also you're no guaranteed to reach those speeds on any mobo. Rather just get the 6300 and overclock that. :D

There's a reason front page ord is filled with QX6700s and X6800's. ;)

Had a PD805 needed water to get a decent overclock and even at 4.1 the E4300 beats it whilst still running at stock.

Any chip can suffer with a crappy mobo even an E6300 but it is way easier with a E4300 (more chance of stable overclock plus the price will be dropping in a couple of months when the E4400 comes out)

See, this is exactly why I'm asking you guys :)

The card is going for 1.6k, which nvidia card would be better?

Also I've been looking at the toms hardware charts for CPU's and the AMD seems to be the better choice, whats your thoughts?

ok,it seems you dont know much about overclocking, because the e4300 is only R200 or so cheaper, BUT the 200 mhz fsb and the x9 multiplier means that if the mobo tops out at 300mhz you can get 2.7ghz overclock. while the e6300 will only get up to 2.1ghz(300mhz x7), that means the e4300 will bend the e6300 over its knee and spank it. it also means you can hit 3ghz with al cheapo 667mhz ram. now my friend that is a great saving in money.

the e4300 has got alot of overclocking balls, even more then the legend e6300. i mean even a noob could oc it well. so ask you self, if you had a cheap mobo, would you go for the cpu that clocks to 2.7ghz or the one that clocks to 2.1ghz? :p

dude you have no clue about overclocking scotty

my e6300 is sitting at 3.22ghz i dont know where you get 2.13 lol

460*7

lol @ 300*7 omw it can do so much more than that

u also know that to overclock really well you need good ram and el cheapo ram and 800 ram is the way to go

i doubt e4200 will bend e6300 over its knee thats for sure

dont buy amd ever again, they ripped us off and i hate them now

if you have the cash get e6300 with the gigabyte ga-965p-ds3 with transend 800 ram

you will get an overclock of 3.22ghz like me

the e6300 cant be much more than the amd?

amd is so not the way to go

on the vga card is you really need a card badly get that ati but if you can hold on for a few weeks you'll be better off
