This is a pure thread on which media player best suites you activities.

Personally I use VLC on the go and XBMC (with Windows Media Center integration due to my TV tuner) as my home theatre.

The selection is vast:

Multimedia players:

- WinAmp
- VLC
- Windows Media Player
- Media Player Classic
- jetAudio
- foobar2000
- KMPlayer
- PotPlayer
- DivX
- GOM Media Player

Media Centres:

- Easy-Data Mediacenter
- Windows Media Center
- MediaPortal
- XBMC
- Moovida

The list goes on, but I listed those which I have used and/or tested. The reason I am probably still using VLC and XMBC is loyalty... KMPlayer, GOM and PotPlayer are really nice.

Please list more players / centres.

I purchased MediaMonkey in 2009, awesomeness, but it comes with a price. Never used or seen Nightingale before.
 
Xbmc is awesome I use it all the time. Its best when you use it with the Android remote.
 
Chrome and VLC for my desktop... do you really need anything else?

and XBMC for the bigscreen.
 
Vlc for video, iTunes for music, but VLC for listening to songs one at a time

Mac:

MPlayerX (free)
MacGo Mac Blu-Ray Player (commercial) for Region A and B Bluray, region 1-6 DVDs with Pioneer BD-XD04 Burner.

TV:
Mede8r with USB flash drives/external HDDs (most basic model) to play stuff on TV.
Pioneer BDP-330 Bluray Player (region free) to play Region A, B, etc and all region DVDs on TV.
 
I play all my videos on VLC. All my music, I play on Windows Media Player.
 
Noontec V8 on the TV and to playback FLAC recordings on the audio system
 
XBMC with the external player set to MPC-HC with the following addons:

MadVR (High-quality Video Renderer)
LAV filters
XySubFilter (High quality subtitles)
 
I still use WMP to sort and find album art/info. Nothing beats it except when tracks unlabeled lol. Play everything via iTunes and iDevices tho lol

Video via vlc, plex or dlna/ums
 
i use and love plex but flip it battles to play on my xbox - Especially HD aka *.MKV (i know this is the xbox's fault - but its all i can use at the moment) when i can afford it i plan on buying one of those mini servers for like R1200 and stashing all my drives in there and connecting that straight up to my tv and then moving over to XBMC!
 
MediaMonkey is really great for tagging and getting album art for songs you don't know, but I still only use Winamp by habit.
 
VLC for movies and Windows Media Player for music.

I used PowerDVD 12 for movies when I still had a desktop with a blu-ray player, the video and audio quality are pretty awesome, especially if you play everything through HDMI.
