Your Raspberry Pi Projects

Does anyone know where to get a nice NAS case for the original Model B?

I have an awesome Couch Potato / SickBeard / MiniDLNA setu[ with a 1TB 3" hard drive connected to my Pi, but managing the mess of wires (power for HDD housing, power for Pi, ethernet, USB from HDD to Pi) is becoming too much for me. Hoping for a nice box that I just put the HDD and Pi into and all is good?

Perhaps I can help. We do laser cutting and can design and cut a custom case for you. It would be an interesting little project, and seeing as I also have a Pi Model B it will be useful for me too.

Something along these lines perhaps? Obviously it will be modeled to fit the Pi, HDD, etc etc.
I particularly like that retro look of the last image.

Wait a minute!
Where are you based? What do you charge? If not in Cape Town, do you deliver? What kinda stuff can you do? etc.
I'm sure many people here would be interested.

Interesting, Slingshot...I might be keen too. I think I need to load up SketchUp and see what I can come up with

I stay in Strand, and work in Epping, Cape Town.
Our laser cutter can cut and engrave wood, acrylic, leather, cardboard, paper (It can also engrave on glass, metal and stone, but can't cut these materials). The cutting bed size is 1200x900mm so it can work with a decent size sheet.
The price depends on factors like design time, size and complexity of the item, how much engraving there is, and obviously which material is used. If you have something specific in mind, PM me with the details.

For the Pi NAS, if there's enough people interested we can work on a design in this thread and see what we come up with.

Now heres a man with a solution ;)

If you can come up with something and it doesn't break the bank, I may be keen! Been wanting to go the laser cut wood way (it looks beautiful!).

Awesome! So my other important requirement is that the entire system be powered off one plug :) So I'll some space to put in small circuit to convert 12V (for HDD) to 5V (for the Pi).

I also prefer the look of wood rather than acrylic. With that said, acrylic does come in many colours so it doesn't have to be clear as in the sample.
This week we're snowed under with work, but give me a couple of days and I'll see what I can come up with. Which HDD do you have? First prize would be to model the box to fit various size HDD's, but it will help to know the size of yours for starters. I use an Adata 1TB drive which is 132 x 99 x 22 mm so I'll make it to fit at least that size.

I have a 1TB Western Digital 3.5" drive, so would need to fit my large drive.

@Slingshot, perhaps you could fab up one with different configs? i.e. 1x 3.5" or 2x 2.5" drives with an adapter. Easier said than done, but I am just spitballing a bit to put some of the ideas out there :)

@Slingshot - I am also very keen depending on price of course. I use a 2.5 inch portable HD.

Perhaps I can make the casing standard size, but with different size brackets inside for different HDD sizes. Once I start designing the case, I'll try different options and see what works best for all.

I haven't forgotten about the Pi NAS casing, just been down with flu this week so didn't do much.
