Your Raspberry Pi Projects

Raspberry PI Controller running Domoticz.
Various wifi sensors (nodemcu) throughout the house monitoring temperature, water meter, fish tank ph/temperature reporting back to Domoticz.
Another PI running custom python code monitoring door alarm magnetic switches, PIR also reporting to Domoticz

Haha. Nope, and that's a special. On top of it, it's a subscription service.

RTAndroid is actually up and functional.

https://git.embedded.rwth-aachen.de/rtandroid/

However, installed google apps like DSTV, Netflix etc fail the DRM support checks. Also at this point in time speed is a real issue and makes the Pi 3 suffer.

I got netflix to work on my Raspberry Pi2 using normal raspbian.

Do you still have this setup ?
Please pretty please can you tell me if you can sucessfully stream youtube videos via Chrome browser (Not via the youtube app)

The reason why its failing the DRM check is because Neflix only works using DRM or Silver light, off coarse silver light is proprietary to Microsoft and does not work natively on a linux system. When using Chrome its using DRM thats makes use of Google's WideVine library.

Chrome is available on linux I.E Netflix will work on Ubuntu.
But! there are 2 problems with this, the library is compiled to be used on an intel CPU , not only that the libWideVine.so library is not open source and belongs to Google (Meaning you cant just recompile it on your Pi). So If you had to simply copy the library over to your PI it wont work because it wont understand the instruction set of your Raspberry PI CPU which is an ARM CPU used in many potable computers such as a Raspberry PI, Android Phones ect ect.

But there is another but :-) Google also has an OS called Chrome OS and they do indeed have a Chrome book running an ARM CPU!
So If you download the image mount it in linux in my case ubuntu and then copy the ARM compiled WideVine Library from the ChromeOS (Chrome book recovery image) to your pi via a memory stick or something. It works!

Something to note though, Google released their source of chrome and called it Chromium not supported by google. So You have to install chromium then place the widevine libraries in the correct folder. Chromium on RPI unfortunatly does not support accelerated graphics which means that Netflix works fine in a window, but at fulscreen HD resolutions it stutters and its not watchable.

If you force the display to 480P and run Neflix full screen its "Almost" acceptable. (This is on a RPI 2 not on an RPI 3 which might have better results)

I'm trying to determine if chrome on RPI has accelerated graphics when using Android for PI,Hence the reason why I asked if The chrome browser can stream video on Android for raspberry Pi.

Guys using these with Kodi - what are you using?

I'm thinking of switching from Libreelec to OSMC

I moved to OSMC from Raspbian as my Pi kept on turning on my TV despite me turning all the HDMI CEC options off.

Installed OpenVPN and Transmission through the Terminal via SSH and all that remains is to setup my SickRage

My Pi3s seem to overheat - gets to late 60 degrees and starts killing the video... so overclocking it out for me :P Runs fine on cooler days, so definitely related to heat. Should probably add a heatsink

I'll give OSMC a try, want to update everything to Kodi 17 tomorrow.

I had the same issue with Raspbian, but I switched everything over to Plex. Running Rasplex on the Pi now and have no complaints.

Did you use NOOBS?

I've read up and it sounds like that is the issue. NOOBS sends the command to the TV through the HDMI so the commands that tell the TV to NOT turn on are only parsed once Raspbian loads.

That's the way I understood it anyway. But OSMC does the job pretty well, but I have a few things I am still fiddling with. Much lower CPU overhead is a benefit at least

You guys should switch to LibreElec. Much more streamlined than Raspbian for a media centre. Not sure how it compares to OSMC tho.

I've been happy with LibreElec for the past couple of months... also works fine with CEC - although I never turn my TV off in the lounge. It's black is PITCH black, so when the screensaver is on you can't see the TV is one.
