Your Raspberry Pi Projects

I have a rock64 and setting up a mini SIEM with it. The device use OSSEC as our host-based intrusion detection system and Graylog for visualization of the event logs. Busy doing a github writeup.
So OSSEC HIDS server --> MongoDB --> Elasticsearch --> Graylog

On another note: Anyone have an old PI camera they want to sell perhaps? PM me!

Not to derail the Rpi thread, but where did you get a Rock64?

Locally, or import?

Please do post back if you finish a write up. Have been wanting to do something similar myself.

I'm using standard hunter valves.

Now this is super cool. I have just planned an irrigation system for my place and was contemplating automating it and wasn't really in the mood to be honest. Until I fell in love with Raspberrypi over night. Now I HAVE to get another one and automate the system.

Which model hunter valves are you using (Hunter Valve Pgv N/Fc Jar Type (25mm) and Hunter Valve Pgv F/C Jar Type (25mm) are the ones I see at builders but don't know the difference ) ? How do you connect them to the Pi? Sorry if this has been covered I just skimmed the last few pages and your pic sold me. By the way, water that poor plant on the left of the pic. Fekker looks half dead...

Now what I want to do is build a little pibot that cruises around the house gathering stats like wifi strength, temperature etc and creates a diagram showing highs and lows of both or more for different areas of the house...

Opensprinkler board with Pi Zero W - connected to the valve solenoids with CAT5 - I'm actually not sure which valves they are, I'll need to check, the previous ones I had were the screw tops, these ones are secured with screws.

Got the device from them directly imported. Will do! I have to add that drivers is an issue with the device.

I'm also looking at something like the Opensprinkler. Can someone maybe give a quick rundown on this. Will any Raspberry Pi work for this? Are there any local suppliers for the Opensprinkler boards? I see Smartkit is selling OpenIrrigation boards, which they say is compatible with Opensprinkler, anyone using those? I'm also not sure which valves to buy? I had a look at the Hunter valves, but there are so many, not sure which to get?

A few members here are using those exact boards from smartkit. Most rpis will work. I went with the rainbird valves as I got them at about R180ish each. The hunter was about R100 extra.

Check the link for discussion from the guy that makes the actual boards. All the info regarding which pis are in there.

I bought one of the Smartkit boards yesterday and already have a Raspberry Pi. Now just looking for a transformer and valves. Where did you buy the Rainbird valves? The only ones I can find from local shops are either the Orbit valves at R280 each, or the Hunter valves with flow control for R450 each.

Will read through the AVForum thread, thanks. :)

I used waterware, but I have a trade account with them. But I've seen rainbird stocked at a few irrigation stores. Even chamberlains hardware had them iirc.

Anyone of you okes got a link to a pi project that runs as a stand alone Karaoke machine.

I am looking for a PI distro that plays karaoke, outputting a GUI onto your telly via the HDMI and then networking back to your karaoke Cd+g or mp3+g colelction on your home network?

I thank you....

/moose wanders off to the pisspot to test the acoustics ..........humming a friday ode unto himself....

Pretty sure Kodi can do that, but there are a bunch of Music only Pi distros (From memory: Moode Audio, PiMusicBox, Volumio and more).

Volumio I have played with b4 , then formatted in favour of Rasplex..... I have two more projects in mind and need to source two more Pi's , one being a Pi in my old Arcade cabinet and the other Karaoke..... So I will have a look into the other distro's you mention..

Cheers!

PiZero-W - Powered by USB port on Huawei B618 running PiHole and DHCP for my work use internet connection.

Pi3 - Running OSMC and cron to update IP every 15 minutes with wget on cloudns (which I use for a free dyndns) for remote access to CCTV cameras. The cron is for the purpose so if the IP changes for any reason it will update the DNS automatically. It also has a script to run the wget command when the pi boots in case of a power failure.

Pi2B - Test box for things I find online - eg librellec with Kodi 18 (leia) for testing the netflix addon, which works OK.

Also tested Android TV as well as an Android OS - Both which did not allow streaming Netflix in any way.
