In a recent update, the Raspberry Pi Foundation installed a Microsoft apt repository on all machines running Raspberry Pi OS (previously known as Raspbian) without the administrator’s knowledge.

Officially it’s because they endorse Microsoft’s IDE (!), but you’ll get it even if you installed from a light image and use your Pi headless without a GUI. This means that every time you do “apt update” on your Pi you are pinging a Microsoft server.

They also install Microsoft’s GPG key used to sign packages from that repository. This can potentially lead to a scenario where an update pulls a dependency from Microsoft’s repo and that package would be automatically trusted by the system.

I gave away the phone I had 6 months ago, have not used it in 2 years.

After seeing all the requests for the Mi4 TV box I unplugged it completely.

It's just a repo. In other words, a place to store code. They're not replacing debian code bases with MS or anything lol.

Looking at the AdGuard log I am shocked how many requests are coming from Xiaomi TV box which is not even in use:

Sometimes when devices don't get a response from calling home they go bezerk. My samsung smart tv goes ballistic with requests as well.

The visibility provided by Pi-Hole is proving to be a mixed blessing.

Plex - with IPv6 disabled - goes crazy when calls via IPv6 are rejected.

22awg is standard afaik. Not sure what that is in mm. It's very thin.

It's not like Microsoft is suddenly gonna install Edge for you without asking. People also seem to forget that Github is now Microsoft owned
