Your temu orders

Amazon also deals in ZAR?
We are talking past one another here. If YOU as an individual are charged the duties, that is seen as an import, irrespective of the company and where they are registered. Otherwise they will pay the duties as a registered importer, like Takealot.
You don't provide your ID for no reason, that is for SARS
You don't provide your ID for Temu

Your package has arrived at your local warehouse but has not been delivered yet due to an incorrect shipping address or incomplete information. The package will be returned after 24 hours. Please confirm your correct address on the following link.

If Temu is a registered South African business who deal in ZAR, why do you need an importers code when you buy from them?
Where do you need an importers code for temu?

Asked to pay R482 taxes on an order valued at R1300(as in what I paid) after coupon discounts(R500) All clothing. Really wasn't expecting that much

Clothing carries a 40% duty.

You got off very light.

According to this calculator you should have been charged R812.5‬0 including VAT:

You need to enter your ID number OR importers code on the website.

Your ID number is like an importers code that is subject to the aforementioned limitations.
Which website? As I've entered neither

Thanks - I think this is where SARS limit of 3 imports is going to hit all of us ?
Correct, and that is where my original question started ... how are the guys getting past this rule with their multiple orders (>3)

They will have to change the law again, 3 orders is ridiculous.

Seriously doubt they are gonna demand that millions of people become registered importers (meant for people dealing with shipping container loads) for importing what amounts to trinkets.

I mean in weight terms even a massive order will be a few kg max.

I am sure SARS can and will. Is there a penalty if one exceeds 3 orders per year and doesn't register ?

I don't think we are getting past the rule. Most of us were vaguely aware of 3 imports rule but for me, it is only hitting me after reading about it.

Remember you are only allowed to order 3 times a year max up to R20k in total.
After that, you need an importers code.
SARS came after me about this in 2020 so I stopped ordering from overseas.

What we need to know is how does SARS do this in practice?

As always in SA it seems to be a question of enforcement. If they are expecting Temu/Buffalo to enforce on their behalf, well, clearly that's not happening. Do they even pass the ID/code on to SARS in anything like real time? Or at all?

I get the feeling Temu is very much on our side regardless. Seeing what people are being asked to pay in duties/taxes makes me think one of the existential risks for Temu's local operation is SARS not taking kindly to them.

Plus people have been ordering from Shein as well, pretty sure some people ordered more then 3 times
