Your temu orders

So obviously anyone could see this coming a mile off. Just a surprise to see Foschini's CEO so happy to come out as the one who did the telling-on. Did he clear that with his PR people? Also no mention of "level playing fields" which is usually what you expect when Minister Patel is trying to explain why consumers have to pay more to subsidise some local uncompetitive industry.

Anyway... I'm curious about this part:

The so-called de minimis rule had allowed Shein and Temu to get clothing parcels of under R500 through customs with a 20% import duty and 0% VAT.

Someone in the comments says SA simply doesn't have any such rule. And the piece makes it sound like SARS is the one dropping the ball. What's going on? Do Temu have lawyers on their team who are better clued up on SA tax law than SARS's own tax lawyers? Or are they just making sh*t up and hoping for the best?

How/when do you pay the taxes? When the courier drops them off?
before its even packaged ,that i can guarantee you ,at most when its recieved at the warehouse in china ,at temu ,all is done via AI ,scanned and then youre charged ,once paid it gets sent to dispatch .

That's correct we have no such rule, Sars has always taxed every parcel at the full going tax rates, how Buffalo was getting around that is probably some shady backhand payments.

I've had that... orderered a week apart.

Just had a small order done the reverse, split into two.... the one order is just a small R5 heads/tails coil.... wonder what customs is going to be :/
And there you have it with the shitty splitting of orders, R5 coin is now R55 after import duties.

You guys see the new update where we will be paying more tax on shein and temu orders etc.

It's an attempt to make us buy locally.

Complete BS.

Have any of you guys had multiple orders (not talking about split orders), where they charged you duties for all of them? Wife ordered 3 times some baking items, and when it came to paying duties, it was one amount, for all 3 orders.. Are they just calculating that in such a manner, instead of 3 small amounts?

Well my only option from the support bot was to request a refund, which I did.
Interesting development, I got the refund for my missing order, but then that same order arrived today (about 2 weeks after the ETA). And to think, I almost re-ordered the same items once I'd been refunded. Fortunately I didn't, and so it seems I scored some stuff from Temu for free, then.

yeah same with my one parcel

i dont know how some guys say they get they parcels within 7 days

1st time i ordered took a month

now my 2nd order is set for 12-26th of June
Generally we have received within 2 weeks of purchase on every order. The date range given by Temu is 2 weeks, so anything after that, and you should receive some sort of refund. Think it's R20

They've combined it, so you'll be getting one package.

I still haven't had a split or combined order after 16 of them. Tax still averages 15%.

Where you might get a split order, is if you add items, after you have already placed the order. Not always, but for me, in many cases, my orders were split, where I added items having already submitted the order

I only added one or two things after an order so far, but that was within an hour or so after paying. Inside their window.
