Your verdict on this rig?

My SATA is a LiteOn DL Lightscribe. The IDE is a Sony 16x DL.
I had a Samsung SATA (also from PCZone) which I replaced with the LiteOn. But I could see a difference even with the Samsung. Oh well, not a Crysis :p

I got a lg ide cd writer, lg ide dvd dual layer writer lightscribe, lg sata lightscribe dual layer dvd writer, samsung sata dual layer dvd writer. and for this new rig, i say out with the old and in with the new, with the baby core i7 nehalem 2.66ghz outperforming the qx9770 in everyway

Almost same as mine... Just have the Q6600 instead of the E... Mine cost about R12500 but I bought just before the rand went to the crappers :)

HD4850 is fine... The ICEQ edition can overclock really good anyways...

These upgrades would be nice, but for the cost right now. Nearly double the price for the CPU and so few available mobos :(
EDIT: Not to mention that I would also have to go for the much more costly DDR3.

In a few months that would have been the perfect route for sure.

Why are you going for an E8400? For a piss in the ocean more money you can walk away with a Q6600

For the pure reason that this rig will be used 99% for gaming, no need to go quad at all. On the gaming front (using max 2 cores) the E8400 will outperform the Q6600 any day since the Q6600 will only be better when it can use the 4 cores it has.

I'd rather wait for the nehalem to become mainstream (and gaming to make use of more than 2 cores) before going the quad route.

- HD4870's in SLi
- XFX N790-iUL nForce 790i Ultra 3-Way SLi

You'll need a crossfire board though...
SLi is only for nVidia cards :)

Oh, and the nVidia chipsets aren't the best yet, they have tons of issues!

I'd keep everything as you have it.. Except, I'd maybe change the PSU, Case and get a seperate HDD for your OS... Also, I'd leave the OS :)

Change my case? :( I really wanted the Coolermaster HAF, but no stock :(

Well I would say the PC is fine. But I'll change some things.. Like getting a Quad core (coz that is the way the future will be going. They will not be releasing any new 8XXX series. I love the 8XXX series but the quads will be being used one of the days.

Also the Display card. My bro bought the 8800 GTX when It was released. It was a heavy price to pay but now I'm sitting with it. And it took a while before he actually upgraded. I also wanted to upgrade but there's really no BIG reason why. So buying a display card is really NB... If you have the extra money to spend get a nice card and when their prices are low just do a SLI/CF on it because then the card will be a lot cheaper. But I would say get something like the 4870 now or similiar. No use buying a display card that will last for a few months..

The last thing is the HDD. It's fine for 1 HDD. But I'll rather get 2 X 500GB or 2 X 320GB. I don't like the idea of oops... It broke and you lost EVERYTHING... Just think about it...

But it will be a nice system... Enjoy
