Building a new gaming rig since I am tired of gaming on my laptop (passing that to the wife :p)

Will greatly appreciate some expert opinions...thanx

Charlie i find that a sata dvd-rw offers no speed advantage at all, it does however make installing it far easier :)

Why not get a 4870 instead of the 4850? otherwise quite a nice rig

I was looking at these too, but felt that a 50% increase in price did not quite justify the increase in performance. With the technology always running so fast I tend to keep 2-3 models below the newest hottest cards.

Well dos games will work :p ! killer system btw, most games will run maxed except Crysis Imo !

see if you can rather get the ASUS P5n-D instead of the ASUS P5Q. Last time I checked their prices diff was about R50. The P5N runs the newer Nvidia 750i chipset compared to the P45

do you want an opinion or do you just want to show off? :D

And no...at R15500 this is hardly show-off material :p

Just spent a good 2 weeks on researching, price hunting and comparison. Was aiming for the best value for money components.

Now if I had say R40k+ to spend...hmmmm...

- 300GB Velociraptor
- Solid state main drive :(
- HD4870's in SLi
- XFX N790-iUL nForce 790i Ultra 3-Way SLi
- 4GB+ Corsair Dominator DDR3
- Intel 9 series CPU (maybe Q9770)
- etc, etc, etc.

if only :o

Think I skipped this one since it can only handle max speeds of 800MHz memory. Went for one that can handle upto 1200MHz.
