Your vote is not a secret

Anyone can figure out I voted for the ANC:
First get your hands on my ballot paper (good luck!).
Then get my fingerprints off it (good luck again).
Then get my fingerprints (and again).
Then wait 3 months for the fingerprint people to match that ballot paper to me (and again).

Easier to just ask me straight forward man. Seriously now. Why do people believe this hogwash in the first place?
 
This is rubbish as the voting papers i got has nothing that told them who i was.

No sticker no nothing. i may be wrong but i did not notice my id number anywhere on the form.

I posted this in the blog's comments, and thought it pertinent to repost it here.

This is the danger of blogs right here. Some people will read it and believe what is said because it resides on a new site. Bloggers and what they have to say should always be questioned, and at the very least they should present irrefutable proof substantiating their "facts", otherwise they should attach a disclaimer that everything they are blogging about is based on assumption and personal opinion.

Bloggers are undeservedly placed on the journalism pedestal, and their opinions on a news site should be dispatched to the level below that of a columnist.
 
I think what he meant, was that the ballot papers are traceable as being South African ballot paper, and not, for example Malawian or Niger Ballot papers.

Carried on to the next person to have my ID stamped. Then next person for the indelible ink followed lastly by the person giving me papers, but I never saw anyone writing any info to match my ID or me to the paper I was issued.

Agree - it is secret - unless you voted overseas. The outer envelope has your details and the inner one your ballot. Depending on how they are opened could compromise the secrecy of those votes.

Not that I'd lose sleep over it.
 
I have no idea why people are so secretive about who they vote for. Makes no sense to me. You are chosing who in your opinion should run your own country for the next few years, but now you have to be all hush hush. What a load of rubish.

If anything, I love telling people who I was planning to and who I did actually vote for. It creates debate between people, it opens your eyes to other people views and opinions, and makes you more confident in your vote because you have been able to weigh your decision against the opinions of others who you've debated against.

FYI - I voted DA, but was for a while very seriously contemplating COPE. In the next election I will once again tell anyone who will listen who I plan to vote for and will be open to debate and opinion from anyone interested.
 
Well I know for a FACT my vote was not secret. I voted in London and we had a huge envelope which we had to put our name, ID number and voting district on it and then another envelope inside with our vote. Very secret indeed!

Well if you ignore that fact that they know my name and ID number, yeah very secret ;)

You will have idea when Zuma come. :) Sure, that ... mmm... human-looking individual will quickly sort out who have right for good life in RSA.
 
One of the fundimental aspects of running a democracy is to protect the rights of individuals to vote (or not) and to conceal who they vote for. See what's happened right her in South Africa with ANC intimidation - imagine if everyone's vote was made public? Our democracy would fall apart pretty quickly. I've experienced some awesome electronic voting equipment and services that allow for hundreds or thousands of people to vote (with complete privacy) in the private sector and it works really well. To bad the government wont use something like this to speed up the process and further protect people's right to privacy. Check out Audience Response Systems at Optivote for a non-threatening interactive voting solution to the problem! But one cant expect the government to operate efficiently I suppose....
 
I only trust ink and paper. And I'll tell anyone that asks who I voted for, what do I care?
