YouTube App not supported Android 6.0

Brave only works on Android 8 upwards, and is of no relevance to the OP of this thread.

Then you need to go through whatever browser you have. Old phone means few options.

For many years I have been viewing YouTube videos on the App on a variety of (older) Android phones. Suddenly this morning a message pops up saying the App is no longer supported, and I must use youtube.com in my browser (not quite the same experience on a mobile device). The Play Store says nothing about this, and Android 6.0 is still supported (re-installed, same message).

Any ideas when/how this happened? (Upgrading my phone is not an option at present).

@Daniel Puchert can MyBB please get this man a phone from this decade?

Isn't there an option for running a 3rd party ROM on the device? (e.g. LineageOS)

In theory yes, in practice no. This is my only phone, with most of my life on it. It might be possible to practice on a junk phone, but not when there is a risk of bricking it.

With only 8GB of onboard memory, uploading a newer version of Android would likely be counter productive.

Several articles (and YT videos) have appeared in the last two weeks. Other than the above suggestions, the most common 'solution' is to delete the App's data and cache each time it stops working. Not ideal, but it is a workaround.

I have also noticed that the Gmail App has issues with authentition on Android 6, from around the same timeframe.

You can also get YouTube ReVanced Extended
