Hi all
I've been experiencing some rather annoying issues with Youtube the last couple of weeks. I'm using Chrome while signed into both the browser and the Youtube page itself. I have a few extensions installed.
- More than half the time, videos won't even play. Just sits there with a black screen
- I very often get the screen pictured below.
- Skipping videos is almost guaranteed to stop the video from playing. Only way to get it playing again is to try refreshing the page.
- Videos embedded into other pages (like the Youtube thread) almost never works.
- When the buffered video has been depleted, the video stops playing and buffering never resumes.
Now, I use Cell C 3G and my connection is not great, but it looks like that is not the problem, as immediately after Youtube in Chrome failed me, it would play perfectly in IE, without even having Flash installed, like is the case for Chrome.) I have not once experienced the issues listed above in IE.
I suspected that Flash might be to blame, but after some experimentation with installing it from Adobe and disabling the build in Flash plugin in Chrome, the issues continued. Next I suspected my Chrome extensions, which include Adblock Plus, but that too tuned out not to be the culprit.
In the end, it looks like the issues continue even when I'm signed out of Chrome, but still signed into the Youtube. As soon as I sign out of Youtube (irrespective of whether or not I'm signed into Chrome), things work better. Skipping in videos is still not flawless, but the black screen and "An error occurred" message stop being an issue.
Anyone else had issues like this? I'm really annoyed by this, and would appreciate help immensely.
