Got a call this morning from ZA Store to say I must make payment - Leopard has arrived - should get it tomorrow or Thursday.

Wonder if I should do a clean install or an upgrade?

Is there a guide somewhere on how to do a clean install? Is it as simple as backing up and using the disk utility to reformat the hard drive and then booting up with the Lepard disk?

Do you know if the family pack is available? Called the iStore. They have Leopard but no family pack.

The family pack is an interesting issue. It is basically an honesty pack because you can install the OS from a single set of media on as many machines as you like.

Wonder how many people here are buying legal copies of leopard for all their machines.

I'm doing a full backup then an upgrade.

Still trying to find out about the family pack and when that will ship.

Anyone heard anything?

I ordered the family pack last week but true to form zastore has yet to contact me despite all assurances.

EDIT - finally got though and the ETA is end of next week

OK, so give us some lessons here - have never made a backup - I take it it is not the same as making an image of the HD. You need to back up your data and then restore it afterwards right?
The disk utility does not do backup? I need a 3rd party package?

Buy an external USB hd or case with hd, and copy your files to it.
Then just choose the right option during Leopard installation.

You can do it from the command line if you want but (imo) the best app is SuperDuper. Download the trial and have it do all the heavy lifting for you.

If you dont like SD there is CarbonCopy Cloner as well as Silver Keeper. I wouldnt just copy everything over if you hope to be able to boot from it should things go pear shaped.

Thanks gents - I think I have a copy of SuperDooper on my Lan drive somwhere - will look at that..
Is there a way I can make my USB bootable w/o erasing whats on there already?
