Durban - The KwaZulu-Natal school which received a zero matric pass rate has had no principal since 2000 and has only six teachers - three of whom are temporary, an education union said on Wednesday.

Zuzanawe High School in northern KwaZulu-Natal was one of the province’s four schools to receive a zero matric pass rate during the 2009 examinations.

SA Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) secretary in KwaZulu-Natal Mbuyiseni Mathonsi said he had found during his visit to the school on Tuesday that the 2009 matric pupils were so disadvantaged that they had to be taken to another school in June.

"Saying that Zuzanawe got zero pass is misleading. Pupils were transferred to Mthwazi High School in Mkuze as early June in 2009 because there were no teachers to teach them. They were taught there,” he said.



Mathonsi said the principal of Zuzanawe High School had left the school in 2000 complaining he was bewitched.

Since then the department of education had failed to act despite parents’ attempts to get more teachers.

Bewitched?! Of all the excuses he could of used.

"My hamseter died and I just can't take the grief"
"I am pregnant with the baby of an alien from mars"
"I am considering a job as president"
"I work for the secret service in zimbabwe and have been recalled"
 
well this was part of the problems addressed but certain Education officials, schools that had 0% pass rates like this one, had no principal, some should only operate for 3-4 hours a day. Others teachers didnt bother to show up. So its no one elses fault besides the department, they need to perform routine checks.

What about the parents. They should also get involved. If you noticed that no teaching is conducted at school surely you must do something about it.
 
half of these schools I mentioned are on the farms where there are 100% black leaners, majority of them have parents that have little to no education, they dont know where to begin.
 
Makes me wonder how this principal managed to become one, if he held such beliefs. And yes, those beliefs are wrong, and have no place in education of children. What next, a flat earth society teacher doing geography, a creationist doing biology ?
