Seems Coetzee, himself has dismissed this supposing reason for him leaving as being nonsense

According to six DA sources, Coetzee believed...

The sources included national and regional leaders, including three MPs, who regularly interacted with Coetzee. Most of them spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals and because they did not want to contravene party communication rules.

Obviously he is going to deny it, but that doesn't mean it isn't true - multiple sources from within the DA, including 3 MP's have confirmed it to be the case - unless the sources don't actually exist or are themselves lying.

It does seem strange to me that someone who has put so much love and time and effort into the DA is leaving for 'greener pastures' as if all his hard work means nothing to him. It makes sense if he feels his efforts are not amounting to anything because they are being sidelined by the DA leadership.

What the DA doesn't seem to understand, is in the current political climate in South Africa, if they want votes, they CANNOT have Zille as the party leader, purely for the fact that she is white.

This is unfortunate, but if they want votes from the majority, or even if they want more votes, they need a black person, preferably a male black person in charge, or at least as so-called 'face' of the party.

They will never get where they want to be in the current state of South Africa with Zille as the head.

The Star is very credible but I didn't see this in the actual hard copy print, so maybe it was in the early edition then withdrawn.

Anyway Zille really needs to make sure that more black leadership is seen throughout the party. I always thought the DA needed a black leader to really compete with the ANC, at least in recent times because like it or not some black people still see the DA as a party for the whites.

I guess its just her accent and mannerisms. Some of the black guys at varsity pointed it out to me and I can kind of see their point. Also, if I remember correctly a few people in the ANC were having a fit a while back when one of the ministers had an American accent, so I would gather from that, that some of the ANC support may think the same. They need to get in strong black leaders who people can relate to in order to try compete with the ANC.

All that said, wasn't Lindiwe born in Swaziland? Does that make her ineligible to be the leader of the DA, if in theory the DA want to lead the country?

lets just get a lot of black people from the ANC to join the DA, then the DA might end up being the ANC....

If the DA get close to the ANC margin, we could see the few ANC members who actually want to see the country move forward jump ship to the DA, in which case it could only help the DA. Most of the useless ANC members will just ride the gravy train until its dry before ever thinking of leaving.

What you are actually saying is that true democracy is a pipe dream for SA. Our average voter simply is incapable of choosing the best party and is inherently racist and sexist.

I can ride my dirt bike to work where I live. It wont be tollarated in USA or Australia or europe. Just one of the many reasons I love RSA.

Coetzee left to go work for Nick Clegg in the UK as an advisor for the Liberal Democrats through to the next election. The DA and LD parties have been cooperating for a while, and regard each other as sister-parties. He didn't abandon the party, or jump ship. For someone working in the political strategy world, it's a good opportunity.

Coetzee left to go work for Nick Clegg in the UK as an advisor for the Liberal Democrats through to the next election. The DA and LD parties have been cooperating for a while, and regard each other as sister-parties. He didn't abandon the party, or jump ship. For someone working in the political strategy world, it's a good opportunity.

I can imagine why he so velemently denies making those comments, wouldn't look good for building trust in the new party. Hope it's not true, but they're policiticians so I wouldn't be suprised if salary/job security aren't as necessary as morality.

The issue of colour really masks the social/class makeup that is really the issue here. Mazibuko went to a very upmarket private girls school, she has a univeristy degree(s), one of particular interest is her BA Honours in Policital Communication. Would you say that represents anyone in the ANC let alone their voters even?
