Cape Town - Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille must take responsibility for the City of Cape Town's financial mismanagement of the Bus Rapid Transit system, the ANC said on Sunday.

"We are appalled and find it unacceptable Zille's flimsy excuse of shifting responsibility to the former executive director of the City of Cape Town's department of transport, claiming civil servants denied her information," the party said in a statement.

Now this holier-than-thou attitude of the ANC annoys me. If we had to hold Jacob Zuma accountable for every ANC mismanagement bungle he would be out of a job. Furthermore, the DA is more than one woman, why are the ANC so frightened of Zille?

"Every single major capital project in South Africa has been subject to massive cost escalation in the past two years," she said, citing Gautrain as an example, the cost of which rose from an initial estimate of R8bn to R25 billion.

Should we hold Zuma accountable since this is an ANC run province? After all, R17bn is a lot more than R3bn. When the ANC bungles they do it on an epic scale!

Yes the DA did something wrong, and they are investigating the matter fully. They're attempting to come clean about the whole incident and with due time maybe they will prove to us that professional politics isn't about covering up the dirty bits.

P.S. I would also like to hold Jacob Zuma accountable for everything Malema says!
 
lol and what about when the ANC spends all our tax money and can't even justify it? :)
 
Politics is a game. The province can distance itself from the Cape Town affairs but when there is a political advantage to be gained it will eagerly claim a close relationship and take the credit. With only one province to govern the DA should have overseen expenditure of this magnitude with some check and balances. Under normal circumstances Zilla should fall on the sword, but only the ANC will gain, so it is infinitely preferable to leave it to the enquiry.

What normal circumstances? The party leader isn't responsible for all levels of government. If that were the case Jacob Zuma would be responsible for every single public servant in this country.
 
While I agree that the ANC are a lot more accountable than the DA in terms of municipal muckups, I think its quite refreshing to see the shoe on the other foot in regards to public statements. Let's hope this situation brings about better management from both parties.
 
Didn't the anc just waste 48 billion on an arms deal?
And create an issue with eskom that will cost us a further 40 billion?

The answer is simple. She's very critical and hot on accountability. She takes the credit for successes, but apparently not failures or f-ups. I say let her take the rap.

Zille has screwed up and this time its almost as big as not personally painting the stop sign in front of Sackboy's house... She must publically admit that she can't meet his expectations and since he's perfect she will now resign and go begging on the street corner.

I don't know, that was a pretty big faux pas on the part of Zille. The woman knows how to use a hammer, for crying out loud! First thing she should have done is sort out Sackboy's road, then build houses for the homeless! Shame on your Premier!

They can investigate, just hope they prosecute everybody they found with a finger in a pie.
