Okay, just heard they are introducing 2 new million zim 'notes' (money)

I have one question, can Zimbabwe be saved?

I mean, can it be pulled outta this messy hole its in?

How could/would it be done?

With the right people in charge, the right support from other countries and the right policies going forward then the country can be rebuilt.

So far none of those things are in place or look to be in place anytime soon.

With LOADS of cash injection, to first TRY and get that currency on the way up.

OT: some guys in the office, that have cash just lying around, are waiting to see this election thing out, and if MDC does take power, they are going shopping for property.

no idea how, but it has to be done..
Hopefully when/if Mugabe goes, and the new government starts making a concerted effort for change and development. The western world and Europe will have squash some of the crippling debt that Zim has at the moment. Just a thought...
Internally i have no idea what they gonna do.

:(

At least the Zimbabwe cricket team is getting support from South Africa with regards to being included in the MTN Domestic and Standard Bank Pro20 - that's something small we doing for them.

I just can't believe how the country (which is so close to us) can be in such a mess.

The world bank needs to like, forget its debt or something.

If the MDC wins and zim sorts itself out, I am also definitely going property shopping in Zim... Its a beautiful country, and would be awesome to have a holiday home there.

Zim has a lot of natural resources - can be done... BUT who knows - it has been shown over and over in Africa that once a party comes into power it's main driving force is "self wealth" and not building/supporting. My 2cents...

Most definitely. Big investors are lining up to get into Zim ..... as soon as it stabalises. They are so far down, they have nowwhere to go but up. But it's going to take at least 5 years to start normalising.

Depends what bob and Zanu do now of course. they can stil delay things quite a bit.

ÂŁ1 000 000 000 cash injection, IF Robert Mugabe is removed from power. Yes, that how much the "former colonialist British pigs" actually care about Zim. Mugabe is raving mad, he has absolutely no intention of saving Zim. If he did, he would've stepped down already.

I think we're teetering on the edge of oblivion. War is in the air. Mugabe may have his veterans, but they, like him, are in their twilight years, I'm afraid. The war ended 30 years ago, many have subsequently died in a country where the life expectancy is 34. Many more are at least 50 years in age. This is a country where the younger generation will decide the fate.

Out of interest: can't parliament declare a vote of no confidence in the President and subsequently remove him from office?

I'm still wondering this, but it seems in Zim that the parliament has very little power to do things like this.

Agreed - as long as the new gubbermint doesn't pull a Bob on the holiday properties a while later...

MDC struck a deal with the UK for R 15.5 Billion a year for rebuilding the country. I'll try and find a sourch quick :)

Colonialism could do it. But ofcourse thats not gonna happen

Unfortunately that is one thing that these Africans countries have proven, is that colonialism does work.

Its also been said that the most effective form of government throughout history was the absolute Monarchy! :p

Hmmm. I think Ugly Bob would have considered himself an absolute monarch. But I take the point - you also need the populace to believe in the devine right thing.

I often wonder about the things that went wrong in the mega sort of way. Top of my list of the worst things that ever happened to Africa was the AK-47.

Colonialism has both good and bad points. On the whole, I'd say it did more good than harm and I say that as an African, not as some polisci researcher sitting in another part of the world. Without colonialists I'd be sitting in a mud hut or at my important job of watching cows avoiding being stabbed by a loon with an assegai or dying prematurely from some sort of disease. On the plus side, I wouldn't be concerned with power cuts.
