Zoopy moves its hosting overseas

Yeah, it's like two different worlds. But as lines get faster and faster in SA, and the speed difference between local and international evaporates at the top end, local hosting pricing has to come down for this to continue to be a remotely attractive or viable option for anyone. Time will tell.

1. As I said earlier, it's up to you to use any one or all of the services available to you out there, according to your wants and needs.

2. While there are obviously comparisons to be drawn, you'll note that unlike YouTube, Zoopy also hosts photos, audio and Zoopy TV shows. There is content on Zoopy that you'll never find on YouTube, and we hope you'll continue to contribute to Zoopy as a living archive of South African content.

You can imagine that some local organisations would not want users to have open access to hosting with Akamai at international broadband rates, when they have a total monopoly on far inflated costs by excluding Akamai from the market.
 
I blame IS for not helping to put the pressure on when we asked them to help.

Now we're sitting with the situation where IS and other ISP's are only viable because of traffic that passes through their networks.

IS have often told me that traffic on their network is not charged, but of course, they make life really difficult for me to see where the traffic is actually coming from, and another ISP using IS as their backbone is not classified as "on their network".

Then you have the peering charges ... aaaarg!

Jeez, that sucks. So not only are they raping us here at home, but they want to take away the few little crumbs we have from overseas as well? FFS!!! :mad:

2. Between March 2007 when we launched and September 2008 (18 months) we grew Zoopy while hosting internationally. We then introduced local hosting between September 2008 and November 2009 (14 months) and moved back internationally in November for the reasons I've explained in this thread.

Clearly if your business model was working, you could afford local hosting. You can't. Your website is a failure. Why? Because it focuses on "SA Internet" - the very sort of ridiculous backwards thinking which lands us up with outrageously stupid things like differentiated local/international bandwidth pricing.

I'll just keep using YouTube and Flickr like the rest of the world... Quite frankly I've never had a reason to even visit Zoopy. No one has ever so much as pasted me a link to content on it.

Lol, I didn't even know what Zoopy was until Wayne made his debut. Still, it seems like an alright site. It reminds me of Bing. Well, not anymore.

Wow! Bad time of the month for you?

How many websites have you started? How many successes have you had?

Why shoot the content distributor for a problem he did not create? Do you have the money to sponsor him? If not then shut the hell up with your whining.
