ZTE MF 253, improve signal?

Hi Astro

Do you play online with this? And have you had any issues if so?

Hi Astro

I don't play online.

At home (where i usually use it, 3g outlying) I get around 80ms ping, 3 meg down and 2meg up on speedtest.

I tested it once at work.
Got around a 18ms ping, 14 meg down and 4 meg up, LTE area but always congested.

Not done much but play with yagi designer and do some reading.

Which reminds me, this was Vodacom's response to my query.

Good day

Please find the information as discussed

The two ports on the back of the LTE router are antenna ports.

Either of these three Poynting products to increase the coverage on the router:-

If they are within LTE coverage range and want to improve his LTE coverage (LTE utilises two separate antennas to get better speeds) : http://www.antennas.co.za/Products/ProductDetails?code=346 or http://www.antennas.co.za/Products/ProductDetails?code=358

If they just want to improve their 3G coverage, then they only need to install one antenna for 3G : http://www.antennas.co.za/Products/ProductDetails?code=325

Here are YouTube videos on information about the antennas and LTE in general, you can forward all information through to the customer:-

Too many things distracted me between then and now.

I'll get to it.

Hi AstroTurf.

I also got a MF253 ZTE Modem, but unlike yours I do not have the connector to add the antennas, instead there is an empty hole.

Do you know if it might be possible to attach an antenna to this model?.

Thanks!

There should be 2 white plastic covers on the back/top of the modem. (look at my photo in this thread for location). I just pulled them out for the photo. The plugs are under those covers.

MF253 ZTE Router and External Antenna's

When I upgraded my Vodacom data bundle, I received the MF253 ZTE Router as part of the promotion. I live in a very remote area and have to make use of an external antenna and I was glad to see that the router has two external antenna ports. I have however since discovered that these ports are useless as there is no difference in signal strength with or without an external antenna.

Normally router software allows one to select either the Internal or External antenna, however the ZTE software does not have this option leading me to believe that the SMA connectors are bogus. I have written to ZTE support and after 3 months have still not received any conclusive answer from them.
