ZTE MF253 WiFi router media folder view question.

I have a ZTE MF253 router. I have two WD media players on my two TV's and would like to share my movies on the media players from my 2 TB hard drive. When I connect the hard drive to a media player I can get a individual folder view. My movies are grouped in folders. I connected the hard drive to the router and I can pick up the media from the hard drive on the WD media player via WiFi. The only problem is that I can't get a individual folder view. I get all the movies in one view in the "movies" folder on the router. It takes quite some time to sift through movies. Is there any way I can get a "folder" view?

Can anyone assist?

I will try, but I don't have such device.
Do you use DLNA for sharing or SAMBA?
With SAMBA it will show entire folders structure as you wish.
With DLNA on B315s I can select a single folder or all folders for sharing, but it will probably share only multimedia files grouped in a single folder, like it is in your case. Any comment?
 
I use DLNA. That is the problem I have. When I view the files via WiFi to the WD Play media player then I just get three media options. Music, movies and photos. When I select movies I just get all the movies in one go and not in separate folders. However if I connect the hard drive to the laptop then I can view the separate folders. The WiFi router works like a charm otherwise. I can stream a HD movie with no problems to the WD Play media player. It's just the folder view that I somehow need to sort out.

What other routers are available that will give me a "folder" view if this one can't work?

Why do you want this from a router? get a proper device, install freenas on an old computer, just share it from a pc that is already on the network.

In fact, I see you can load plex player on some wd media players so why not make a plex server?
 
Why not? I was given this router free of charge from Vodacom. I have all my media on a 2 tb hard drive and I have two WD media players connected to each TV in the house. I would like to watch the media on the TVs. In this case I want to stream it via WiFi to the WD media player. Imagine sifting through movies to get to the one you want to watch. Its easier to select the folder where you know where the movie is.
 
How do I load plex player on my WD media players? Will that enable me to view a folder via the media player? I have the WD Tv Live and the WD Tv Play media players. I'm a novice when it comes to software and IT related stuff so forgive my ignorance.

Apologies if I misunderstood, it sounded like you wanted to buy another router.

I just did a quick google and found several threads on how to do it.
Maybe do the same yourself as I do not have all the details of your devices.

Plex player requires a plex server.
Not going to go into in-depth detail as there are several threads on the topic here and thousands on the web but basically you need to make a plex server to be able to use plex players.

The biggest advantage is that you can play your media off multiple devices (at the same time if your server is fast enough).
Obviously there are numerous other advantages like great views (arrange by date released, date added to your device, have thumbnails, previews, episode information etcetc), being able to watch a movie/episode where you left off, music player, plenty cool ad-dons and so on.

Devices would include androids, apple devices, windows devices and things like media players.
 
I have a ZTE mf253 router and two WD media players. How do I create a plex server? I'm clueless.
