President Jacob Zuma called for calm on Wednesday after five people have died in xenophobic attacks in KwaZulu-Natal and as tensions began rising in Johannesburg.

"What is happening in our country is not acceptable," Zuma said in a pre-recorded interview with SABC, broadcast on SAFM and rotated on the other public broadcaster's channels' news bulletins on Wednesday.

He also spoke on SABCs television bulletins.

"We condemn this that people are attacked and killed," he said on the SAFM clip.

"'We cannot accept that when there are challenges we use violence particularly to our brothers and sisters from the continent.

"ĂŹ would like to convey my condolences to the victims and to those who have lost their loved ones. I think this now must stop because we cannot continue killing one another.

"We are calling for calm that we should solve these problems," said Zuma.

Only a few days after all this started. Does whatever he says still count?

Says the dose that sings bring my machine gun and defends the likes of Andrew Zondo and Rpbert McBride??

Rich indeed

Oh, he's finally managed to drag himself off his lilo on the fire pool and away from the harem for five minutes, has he? Well done, Showerhead. Well done.

South Africa really is getting super ratchet, glad I don't keep up to date with the news here.... The statues getting taken down, the general anger in the country, and now this... :(

We have heard that local traders say that foreigners are taking their jobs.

Not sure if I entirely agree with that line - Some of those South Africans complaining don't try make a better life for themselves; they sit on grant money and complain.

Have arrests been made on this case?
