In his editorial in the latest issue of the Financial Mail, Barney Mthombothi describes in detail how Zuma, two days after his May inauguration, summoned Telkom chief executive Reuben September to his home in Forest Town in Johannesburg and demanded that the Vodacom agreement be cancelled

In his column Mthombothi writes that Zuma wanted to prevent the Elephant Consortium, a Telkom shareholder comprising Mbeki confidants, benefiting.

I think Zuma, as the new head of the single largest shareholder in Telkom, was well within his rights to call a meeting with the CEO.

However, the contract was signed and sealed already, as September was probably doing what his previous Boss told him to do, and he did it quickly.

An air tight contract is all that was needed.

Its not really HIS per say, but he was elected head of state. And the state, through DoC and PIC, are the majority shareholders in Telkom.
