Zuma no confidence debate set for Thursday

A motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma will be debated in the National Assembly this coming Thursday.

Democratic Alliance Chief Whip John Steenhuisen wrote to National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete to confirm whether the debate will go ahead.

He says he received confirmation yesterday afternoon.

Steenhuisen has stressed the importance of this move.

“It comes at a critical juncture in South Africa’s political stages because for the first time since 1994 there’s widespread dissatisfaction across civil society and business over the president and the state capture revelations that have come up following last year’s Nkandla revelation."

I don't understand the point of these.

All previous ones, it's a screaming match with insults being thrown and at the end of the day the vote comes in and the majority just denies the request.

Surely there must be another way of getting him out.

We can always wait for the ANC to recall him or 2019, in the meantime the opposition are calling for these motions in the hope that the ANC MP's find their conscience and do the right thing.

I wonder what the outcome of a secret vote would be.

Of course, Baleka won't do that, because she protects Zuma and not the constitution, as already proven.

A secret vote could well have different results, but none of the ANC members are prepared to nail their colours to the mast.

All just cowards !!!

Ahh, now it makes sense.

I'm pretty sure there are those in the ANC that would vote him out if it was an anonymous voting system ( Which I thought it was ? ).

So basically they are scared at the repercussions when voting against no. 1 ...

The voting public become a little more swayed against the ANC for protecting Kaptain Korruption.

Hawks finally found me, says Mentor



It took them months but finally the Hawks have made contact with Vytjie Mentor.

The former ANC MP was one of the first people to speak out about the influence of the Gupta family on the state, alleging that they offered her the public enterprises ministry at their home in Saxonwold.

She reported this to the Hawks in March but they claimed they had failed to "locate" her.

"Only when they saw in the media that I had gone to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to report them, then they go around saying that they can't find me," Mentor said.

"They sent me an SMS and I have responded to them ... this is how I am. You are calling me and I am answering your call."

Mentor said the Hawks were incompetent.

"They are headed by foolish people who cannot find a poor woman. I am not even a criminal."

I'm not holding my breath on this one. It will go the same way as the one in March went. Lots of screaming, shouting, insults, ending off with a vote to keep Zuma.

DA did not ask for a secret vote, it's a political move so they can say, "see, look how corrupt the ANC is protecting Zuma." This vote is nothing more than that, and a good chance to stand up in parliament and have all the opposition tear Zuma and the ANC a few new holes.
