Zuma steps down as rand soars to fresh highs

South African president Jacob Zuma resigned Wednesday, bringing an end to his scandal-marred tenure and leaving the nation’s leadership in the hands of the ruling African National Congress’s new leader, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Good riddance, imagine what the rand would do if a certain Nkandla compound got raided today...

Let's see how long those fresh highs last when Ramaphosa continues with this expropriation without compensation rhetoric, as he inevitably will to shore up votes for the next election. And the EFF has just lost their primary cause, so they've made it clear their next campaign is "white capital must fall".

The smart move would be to take full advantage of the current Rand strength to increase your offshore hedge, in whatever form.

Hes practically secured the majority vote just by not being ZJ.
He needed that rhetoric to secure the ANC nomination.
You'll hear less of it now.

As much as I would love for that to happen, if won't. He is nothing better as a replacement for JZ as Emerson is for Bob. They sat there for years, seeing things happen, and not doing anything. Biding time is a strategy, but unfortunately his SONA speech showed him as noting different. It is Lol rhetoric.

Did we watch the same SONA 2018 ?

Do you think if CR "did something" he'd be the president today?

Exactly. He played the tactics perfectly, IMO. He didn't want to become another Pravin who was kicked out for doing the right thing.

But let's first see how his first tenure goes. Keeping my eyes open at all times.
