Zuma to appeal corruption charge ruling

Zuma - " I want my day in court!! "

Side note, can someone please explain why this process is taking so long? Surely, in a matter involving an individual in the highest office of the land, should take precedence over any other legal matter as it impacts each and every South African significantly. Why are there months/years between verdicts?

It can be, but is their the political and judicial will to do so...

And should the prioritise it higher, does it not potentially open them up to claims of abuse of power and process etc?

In the efforts to redress the inequalities of apartheid, the courts should prioritise the cases made against ANC members as such privilages were denied to them.

How ? the request for prioritization should be coming from the opposition parties who don't hold power. It should actually be a right for them, similar to how one can apply for an urgent interdict that is heard in a few days versus a long time window.

Scenario:

1. Case completed and verdict given
2. Appeal is launched against the courts judgement
3. Request is made to the court for "Urgent Resolution" ie bringing the date FORWARD for the appeal to be heard\tried.
4. Respective court grants or denies the Urgency Request.

Using the system outlined above, I can't see how it can be construed as an abuse of powers, remember even if the resolution is successful, it only brings the timeline forward. The court process still has to continue as normal. To me this is a flaw of our democracy and should be looked into as a possible amendment to our judicial system.
 
An incredibly stupid move by Zuma. His addition does nothing for the merits of the case, and kills the narrative of him wanting his day in court.

But at some higher lever there is a lot of truth in that. Atm anything is being thrown in front of the masses as a diversion, even race polarization, at an attempt at creating smoke screens to hide and/or divert attention from those feeding at the trough.

Technically speaking it is the NPA that is preventing him from having his day in court.
