President Jacob Zuma is HIV negative, according to a test taken on April 8.

Zuma decided to share his results on Sunday at the launch of the HIV/AIDS counselling and testing campaign in the Natalspruit Hospital, east of Johannesburg.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to share my results with all South Africans...to promote openess. I'm sure South Africans will know I am very open."

I am happy that he keeps getting tested, everyone in SA should be tested and regularly. But he should never have released his status.

Very irresponsible after he had sex with an HIV positive woman and then took a shower to minimise his chances of contracting it. This now sends the wrong message.

Thought it was public knowledge that Zuma is HIV Positive? Having a public test and not disclosing the results is kind of a give away. If he didn't have aids I'm sure he would proudly show his results and claim that he's HIV Free...

Firstly, Zuma had his tests done long ago and they came back negative. Then this "openess" became an option because imagine the DA [and public] on his case if they were positive?

2ndly, this is actually damaging because now the whole mentality would be "you can sleep around and not get hiv" will be planted into the populations minds. Maybe even go as far as taking a shower themselves to prevent it [considering how uneducated most of the population is on this matter].
