Cell C’s R2.4 billion network plans
Cell C announced that it is investing more than R2.4 billion in it infrastructure rollout over the next 12 months. This investment, Cell C said, will partly be used to upgrade its data network.
Business Day reported that Cell C’s investment is in preparation for its commercial LTE launch.
MyBroadband asked Cell C about its LTE plans, but the company said it cannot share exact details of its LTE strategy.
Many Cell C subscribers have been complaining about poor network quality, and this investment may help to alleviate some of these problems.
The network investment news follows a City Press report that Saudi Telecom had written off a R1.2 billion investment in Oger Telecom, attributing the impairment to its investment in Cell C.
Cell C CEO Jose dos Santos remains optimistic about the company’s future, despite the headwinds it is facing.
“Their (Saudi Telecom) results are their results, but for us it doesn’t affect us at all,” dos Santos said.
