Cell C’s R2.4 billion network investment

doesn't really help when their competitors are spending multiple times more than that. They will always be playing catch up.

too little too late. For the past 2 years their data network has been terrible and not risking another 2 years on a "possible" improvement. I have about 3GB of data available on a 3 month rolling period of receiving 1GB a month. So if you work that out quickly that means that I don't use any of the data, because it is just that terrible.

Also as a disclaimer, this is on a Galaxy S4 in areas of Durban that I constantly get full signal and HSDPA+ reception. The data hardly ever flows, it more like trickles and then just stops.

Too little too late. I cancelled my Straight Up contract today and I'm going to be with MTN from February.

Agree. They are late to the party. CellC is synonymous with poor connectivity and it will take a lot to turn around that perception.

I will hope for a better network for the last year or so i have on my contract..

But i'm still leaving.

Their network is a disaster. Are they not meant to have some sort of call quality / call drop rate legal compliance?

--Proudly ex-CellC customer as of Jan 2015.

I've only ever had good call quality with Cell C, and dropped calls have never been an issue. I'm leaving purely because the data network is broken.

Just what I was thinking. I dumped them last year after being with them for four years. I went back to my original network (Vodacom) and couldn't be happier even though I am paying more than I did with crappy Cell C.

Honestly, even if they die I won't shed a tear, they are absolutely useless! I love competition and what they have done to help lower prices but if their network is as bad as it is it was for nothing. People are leaving them just as they ran to them.

Are their data prices still increasing? Cause I thought it was set for January for pre-paid.

Experiences definitely differ then. I'm on a MTN data contract (via Axxess) and though the price is right, I've been very disappointed with both spotty coverage in Gauteng (I travel quite a bit between Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand, Sandton and Joburg CBD) and poor speeds. I use Cell C on my phone though and it's been surprisingly reliable on both voice and data. Your mileage may and probably will differ but I'm far happier with Cell C than I am with MTN at the moment.

Cell C voice is better for me than any other ISP, at my house near Wanderers.

Cell C data used to be good, but does not work anymore, even with good reception.

But to be fair, neither TM nor MTN work at my house, and VC is only 2G.

I hope we'll see better prices with both Cell C and Telkom (the only two real competitors) having LTE.

Reporting bias. With every thread about a network you have the people with bad experiences jumping in. Cell C data is exceptional for me but everyone that comes here complains about Vodacom coverage, both voice and data. Guess we make up the 20 Cell C supporters for this thread.

In my area CellC is the only viable HSDPA available. MTN is just not getting signal. Use to be fine but deteriorated badly since last year.

We see these articles on a regular basis and yet nothing changes...

I'm equally unimpressed with their data network. I go places and find that I have full signal, but nothing loads. my contract expires in september, so I'll go on telkom prepaid for a bit to see what happens. maybe I'll port. I was seriously impressed by their 30min of free wifi last night. and they have hotspots all over. just wondering how their cell signal is in places.
