Axel Springer sues ad blocking service
Techcrunch reported that German media powerhouse Axel Springer has taken legal action against an iOS content blocker known as Blockr.
This forms part of a campaign against ad blockers, which are threatening the business models of online publishers.
Lampmann, Haberkamm & Rosenbaum, the law firm which represents Blockr, said several German publishers have previously been unsuccessful in trying to convince German courts to outlaw AdBlock Plus.
“The court was asked to forbid the Blockr developers to offer, advertise, and develop a software that suppresses ads on www.welt.de, including mobile versions of the website,” the firm said.
The software was said to be illegally obstructing digital content and therefore had to be banned.
The court announced on 19 November that it did not see any legal grounds on which a preliminary injunction could be issued.
