Twitter crackdown after Ghostbusters actress harassment
Twitter will ban several user accounts after Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones became the target of abuse and harassment on the platform, Reuters reported.
Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos led the harassment campaign against Jones, and was among those banned.
Jones shared several of the abusive messages she received before announcing she would leave Twitter.
“I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the shit I got today… wrong.”
She joins several prominent figures who have left the platform after being the target of abuse, including British comedian Stephen Fry.
When Fry quit Twitter he said that Twitter had become a “stalking ground for the sanctimoniously self-righteous who love to second-guess, to leap to conclusions and be offended”.
