Understanding SNR and Attenuation Rates

is there any way we could drop the atteuntion or SNR if it was on the brink of re-syncing ? is there any equiptment we can buy that will stable the line ?

OK so what would you dudes think of this
recently upgraded to a 3Mb line had to downgrade from the 4 coz the flippin line kept dropping

Well according to this, your levels are a bit dodgy!!! not surprised telkom are having issues with the 8MB... the copper is cock!

Heres is my table of comparisons
SNR:

6dB or below is very bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with little or no sync problems
20dB-28dB is excellent
29dB or above is outstanding

Attenuation:

20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

well then maybe i should drop backk down to 2 Mb then ??:( so sad i use the line for
online gaming ontop of it for international gaming !!

flip well it does drop but only when i pick up the phone ? so disconnected the phone completely

where abouts are you based?

gees that is crazy, im really fortunate that my levels are so good!

So my line at 384Kb/s should be suitable for 4Mb/s then?
(I requested 4Mb/s but the order managed to get messed up - waiting for an upgrade to be performed..)

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 384 kbps 128 kbps
Line Attenuation 3 db 1 db
Noise Margin 31 db 25 db

Agreed that this thread should be a sticky.

Thanks Mineer.
Will post the figures here as soon as the line is upgraded.

Starting to make some headway here...
After speaking to some supervisors re. Upgrade to 4Mb/s they upgraded the line to 1Mb/s.
They are going to phone me back re. Upgrade to 4 Mb/s (Some confusion seems to exist between Orders/Accounts and Support/Line Services.)

This is what I have now:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1024 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 2 db 1 db
Noise Margin 31 db 13 db

Will post the 4Mb/s links as soon as I have them.
