Openweb Uncapped Feedback

He responded to my mails yesterday but hes been unusually MIA on the forums recently

I also wonder what part Telkom has to play in this degraded service lately??!!! Could be they battling with capacity!! Even my unshaped account is working erratically lately!!! FFS!!!

Wish there was a test of some sort we could run to rule out if our problems are ISP, backbone or telkom related.

Jitter seems to be a lot better now.
Ping is unfortunately still higher than my 384 account was.

Download speed just dropped to 5-10kbs...
Got this account on special but so far its a dud...

I'm not used to openweb's connections beeing this bad.

EDIT: Download speed up to 30kbs... so now I'm back at 384 speed. Speed is jumping up and down now like a crazy rabbit.

Okay, pings back up to the high 100s and 200s. I know I haven't even used the account for a week, but I'm seriously thinking of jumping ship here. I can't use the account for the purposes I bought it, so it's effectively useless to me. Just a pity about thye 30 days notice thing.

I'm not sure what the average user feedback for Mweb uncapped is, but one of my friends has been on it for 3 months, and it's been nothing but joy for him so far. I'm not about to pay R200 extra for a service just because the standard service sucks, if I can get a decent enough account from Mweb for R80 more.

Edit: From the sounds of it, at least all the uncapped users at Mweb are treated equally. I'm not about to sit here and listen to how I need to get a Gold account if I want my account to work decently for more than 5 minutes.

I think there must be Telkom problems / capacity issues that they aren't telling us about. My Altech gold account's speed was jumping around a lot last night. A couple of our offices have capped IS accounts that are battling today and our other offices with IS business uncapped are also poor.

I feel the same way. I'm not paying that kind of money for a gold account.

I just checked 2 of our ADSL lines in our Cape Town office that were syncing at 7mb last week are down to 4 and another that was syncing at 8mb is down to 3mb.

Why do the standard uncapped accounts run on the Siemens Backbone? I thought they ran on Openweb's own backbone? I read a thread from last year that said they ran on Openweb's backbone, or does Openweb no longer have their own backbone?

Geesus, that sucks but not altogether unsurprising. One thing we've come to know about Telkom is their infrastructure is running on fumes and they have neither the political will or the know how to fix it...

Getting 15kbs on my 1mbs on direct downloads. What the hell is going on?

Have any of you actually emailed Mrbeep and asked him to take a look? Or do you enjoy badmouthing Openweb too much to do that?

Heck, it seems things have gotten progressively worse on this thread in the last week. I emailed Keoma regarding my issues with Standard Uncapped and he has since moved me to a new backbone which I have yet to test properly (it does seem better). I scored one of the Afrihost 100Gb specials so I'm using that at the moment. I know it's not fair to compare a 100Gb unshaped account to a standard uncapped from OW, but hell, what a difference! It's what internet should feel like... even if it's only a baby line, everything I need to get done or downloaded just happens without big brother nuking the crap outta it.

He actively monitors this thread. So emailing him is not entirely necessary but I'm assuming lot of the forumites have...

This is absolutely pathetic

I wanted to upgrade from 384 to 1mbs but cancelled my account with openweb because their pricing was falling behind other ISP's. Then openweb had a special for 1mbs standard uncapped adsl @ R229. Since Keoma always helped so much with account issues, I decided that I would rejoin openweb.
I only got this account yesterday but so far its performed worse than my 384 standard uncapped package. After I applied I learned that even though it looked like a normal standard uncapped package that was on special it was not. I'm not able to make use of any other backbone, other than BCS.

I've been with openweb for a couple of months now and I've always been happy with the level of service I've gotten. If I had known that the package only had 1 backbone choice I would not have signed up for it. My ping on this account is on average 80-400 higher than my 384 account was (333 on average international ping), I've been getting jitter again and again causing my latency to further deteriorate and services like teamspeak 3 keep disconnecting. Apparently the BCS backbone is supposed to be able to download torrents at night but last night it could only reach between 0 and 4 kbs. If anyone else got onto that special and is reading this please give some feedback on the account. Perhaps I'm the only one who feels like I've been cheated and someone else is getting some great speeds from it, but I am not happy.

EDIT: ISSUE RESOLVED BY MrBEEP. Thank you very much for your assistance.
