Joined Neotel in Sept 2008 via Postnet & had to pay a R1000 deposit, which I did. All along the bill has been coming & I generally check the Statement of Account & sometimes the Itemised Bill, if the amount seems off. Sick, in bed today so had time to go through everything, went through the Tax Invoice and noticed that under "Deposit Held" is the princely sum of R0.

Called Neotel, according to them they have no proof that I paid the R1000 and so I have to come up with proof of payment from 2008. Even though the account clearly states that a R1000 deposit is required, which would mean that it had to have been paid for the account to be activated.

Seriously, I'm so sick of Neotel right now. What kind of joke organisation is this? I've moved house twice in the interim, haven't even finished unpacking and now I have to go through all my boxes to find proof of payment from 2 years ago!!!

Good thing my new place has a telephone line & I've ordered DSL, can't stand any more of this.

Hi sjm

Please drop me a mail [email protected]

I need an account number os service MDN to work off to assist you.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hugo

How did you pay the original deposit?
Was it perhaps an eft? If it was, then you can prove it was paid by means of supplying a bankstatement,

Paid it via credit card. Sent a copy of my credit card statement for that month, clearly stating "Neotel R1000" to both [email protected] and to Hugo. So far I haven't heard anything back, no further questions, no directions, zilch. Therefore I'm assuming that what I sent is satisfactory & my deposited will be credited. Should I suddenly get an email 2 - 3 weeks down the line asking for something else I'm going to go supernova.

When did you send them this info?
If you have not heard from them in a few days 3-5 max. start having your supernova.... sigh

Sent it to both [email protected] and to Hugo on the 13th, which is when I discovered the problem. It's been a week since then. Between Neotel & ADT I've soooo had it with crappy customer service.

For the information of anyone considering going to Neotel and reading this forum; this happens with ALL deposits. We canceled with Neotel after more than 50% downtime in our first month and we still haven't got our deposit back - more than a year later. The number of people with this same problem is amazing!

They also tried to tell us that we must provide proof of payment. We also did it at Postnet. If you change to ADSL and leave Neotel but they won't pay you back then I would take them to the small claims court if I were you. I have just not had the time but perhaps I should too.

Also while you are at it just go lay fraud and theft charges. It does not take that much time at the police station.

Should be sorted now (according to Hugo). Will wait for my next statement to confirm. Thanks Hugo.

I reckon you should still go for the fraud and theft charges...

Make them bastids pay! You'll do the rest of the people that joined up a favor.

Will only do this if they fail to repay the deposit when I cancel.

Latest statements arrive, it's still reflecting R0 as the deposit held. Will be apoplectic shortly

I don't know what your current set-up is, but maybe it's time to go the ADSL route?

Moved to ADSL mid last month, was going to let the Neotel contract run to completion (it still has 4 months to run) so downgraded it to the smallest package & kept it as a backup, but am now looking at cancelling. Have had enough.

Fraud and theft charges, small claims court, and hellopeter. Make it really uncomfortable for them. Write to carte blanche, too. Sounds like there are enough disgruntled customers.

Hi sjm.

As pe rthe mail i sent you, IT gave cognisance that it would be corretced and reflect the next statement run. Ok, so clearly that was not corrected.
I am working on it now, with different angle and correspondance. Will feedback to you shortly.

Hi Hugo,

Sounds like you are stuck inbetween a rock and a hard place... you really are trying to help people, but the rest of the Neotel staff don't seem to have the same passion/ability... problem is neotel's network and IT infrastructure, so you are going to get flogged with these issues... maybe time for a new job??
