Thank you for taking the time to see what we are all about…… You won’t regret it ! A hub hosted locally (uses local cap), with the intention of creating a totally uncensored environment for free thinking individuals who have great stuff to share. You are bound to find shared content that you won’t find anywhere else, stuff that you have been looking for. And if you don’t find it, you will definitely find someone here who will find it for you ! And, more good news - ratio’s don’t mean a thing here and are not monitored… we just encourage everyone to share as much as possible to expand the range of content shared (and speed up downloads, making everyone’s experience better). We do not believe in a hierarchy so everyone here is equal. Please join us for a great place to chill and make friends and share, not only your “stuff” but ideas and suggestions. STEPS TO GET GOING, QUICK AND EASY

Step 1: Download ApexDC++ with the link provided here. Latest Version 1.4.3

IN ORDER TO START DOWNLOADING / UPLOADING YOU NEED TO BE IN ACTIVE MODE, PLEASE ASK AN ADMIN OR SOMEONE ON THE HUB WHEN YOU GET ON​

GETTING STARTED WITH DOWNLOADS

Click File > Settings > Sharing > you will see a normal browser tree. Please share as many files as you can greater than 40Gb's by ticking the relevant folders.
You can specify a name, which is how it will appear in your share that others will see, e.g. Iso, Video, Apps Music, etc.
It will take a while to hash "to index the relevant files", so click on hash in background.
Please note that disclaimer does apply! No S.A media content

TO DOWNLOAD- In the main hub you will see a list of user names on the right. Right click a username and select BROWSE file list.
A tab will open with the name of the user as a header. Browse through the users list of share. If you want anything from them right click on required file and select add to download queue.
The file will start to download. Check the bottom of the hub to see progress

At the top of the application, you will notice 4 yellow folder icons on the toolbar.
If you scroll over these you will see they allow you to Browse upload queue, Browse download queue, etc.
You can perform various functions like delete files from queue, give priority to files in list, etc.

Click File > Settings > Downloads > Here you can specify a folder where your downloaded content will go.
Very Important - Please share your download folder so that there are more sources of the same files.
This will enable downloads to go at faster speeds.

Managing Slots

Click File > Settings > Slots >

Important Please Note
On a 384k line - Open 1 slot
On a 512k line - Open 1 slot
On a 1meg line - Your choice -1 or 2 Slots
On a 4meg line open 2 to 3 slots
On a 8meg / 10meg open 6 to 8 slots

Small upload slots – the default is 3 and set to 512kb

Optional - allow incomplete partial downloads an extra slot Yes / No

You can add friends of yours as favourite users which will auto allocate a slot for them when they request a file from you. i.e. if you have set up 2 slots, a favourite user will be allocated an extra slot. Please refer to the guide 4. Extra Features for details on how to set up this function.

None of the files are actually hosted on the server/hub. The links are provided solely by the server's/hub's users. Those files are meant for the distribution of backup files. By downloading those files you are claiming that you own the original file. I will definitely give this a shot next month when I am on uncapped. Have 1TB of "backups" to share...
 
As far as I can remember all local hubs have failed miserably in the past. Will be really interested to see if all this uncapped helps at all.
 
My experience is that downloading always happens at a crawl. I might give it a bash I have about 3 TB to share , but honestly, astraweb is easier..
 
No, idea why you're getting that error,, The hub is active and people are joining all the time, Perhaps try a diff Dc++ Client.

Yeah, I'm with you... only thing that used to interest me is local content that you can't find on news servers.
 
Astranews is pretty much dead for me, so I'll definitely give this a go!

The more people that join the faster it will go as there are more sources for each item.

Also, this is not necessarily a replacement for nzbs, more like a compliment as you can find stuff on it that you may never find anywhere else. It is great to see what is out there and what people actually use, watch etc.

Yeah SA isn't yet an ideal place for this type of thing, but you may be surprised just how great it can be even given the constraints. So join in, and even if your download speed is not so great now, you will be contributing to a better future, getting some cool stuff, and if everyone joins and stays on it will quickly become a great source, maybe even better than nzbs, etc

So give it a chance, and stop being sauer
 
This is a great idea except 384k & 512k user have crap upload speeds. So enjoy downloading a 1 gig file at 15kB/s :sad:

this is true, but if you had 10 users with the same file? 100 users? thats why it gets better as more people join... every user is summed for your download speed.
 
Awesome place to be..made some new friends..got oogles of content not normally shared at other sources...Agrees that a 384k or 512k can be cumbersome,but me has a 1/10gb cap limit on 384k and still enjoying it..but gonna switch to uncapped soon though.What I love about it is the simplicity of the share..so easy to exchange data..the only trick is to get in active connection mode via forwarding ports..then it's all good and easy from there,no more hassles!!!..the admin will gladly help you get active once you there!
 
JOIN UP PEEPS

The initial sharing of files, ie in order for other people to see what you have dosn't cost any bandwidth, its only when a user requests a file then your bandwidth will be used, Its local so no worries there, and most have uncapped so again, What you have to loose, try it.
Reg your nick, and have fun their is a chat box, which allows people to be themselves, and discuss what ever topics they feel like, All info is on the site http://www.circle-of-fire.co.za/ More people the better. more files, more sources :)

Anyone tried this with an Iburst connection? Should work and since we have "uncapped" after 12am, we can just try. :)

Heya, i really haven't used an iburst modem with dc before, If it uses the same pprotocol as a neotel one, im sure you'll be able to connect, that is if it supports port forwarding, or a pppoe set up, dialing into the modem, in bridge mode, if it is the latter the best option would to choose direct connect and see if you have any joy, obviosly also making sure firewall etc allows the apexdc client software, thanks for your interest in the hub,

Our Admins and Ops are always willing to help people on the hub with whatever problems they encounter, and the site that we have up, explains all the details in depth, as well as a quick and easy port forwarding app.
