Should I buy a new bed from Dial a Bed?

So I need a new bed now, the one that I am using now has a slightly broken base, so it makes loud and annoying noises whenever I sit on it or sleep on it (no i don't have a girlfriend so don't even think about it ).

I went to dial a bed and I was advised to buy a queen size Sealy posturepedic bed set, it comes with a mattress and the base and it costs R5000 in total. I also want to add a sheet material which is supposed to protect your bed from moisture, that will set me back R550, and delivery will set me back R300, so in total I will pay R5850 and I will pay cash

My collegue bought a Sealy bed from Dial a bed 3 years ago and it's still in good condition according to him. I bought my current Edblo bed from Joshua doore 2 years ago and it's now broken, and the warranty expired a year ago.

Should I go that route and buy my bed at Dial a bed? Or should I go to another shop?

sounds about right cause I bought my bed for a bit more bought Queen size, but paid cash so I negotiated free master gaurd and picked up my bed myself but u can also arrange dat for free with them...........cash is king except at Furniture City fools dont wanna give me discount on a lounge suite there.......

I bought mine from dial a bed it has a 10 year warranty iirc and the amount you pay for replacement varies with the age of the bed.Im happy so i dont see any problems with them.

I bought my Seally from them in Centurion and my cousin bought and edblo two years ago and his is already broken and mine is still as good as new. I would say do it. A good night's rest does more than anything you can eat (my opinion and you have to eat something), so spend more on it if you can.

I'll buy mine in Centurion as well, I guess Edblo sucks. The sales lady did tell me that Edblo and King Koil are designed mainly for guests, while Sealy is for everyday use. Maybe that's why my bed as well as your cousin's bed are broken already.

And maybe because my cousin is three times my weight...

Imagine if you did have a girlfriend how quickly that bed would have failed

The bright side it may have failed within the warranty period Seriously though, Sealy is great. My King size extra length is a Sealy and still going strong about 10 years later..

That's because their salaries are commission only. I heard some people working for them make in excess of R20k p/m - my jaw almost dropped to the floor when I heard that!

I use to work for Dial-A-Bed and then latter on their competition, a manufacturer, Brothers Beds.

To sum it up and correct the info:

King Koil, edblo and Sealy come from the same factory. Depending where in the range you purchase, they are in affect the same mattress. I would also rather sleep on an Edblo engerizer than a King Koil 2000 or a non-posturpeadic Sealy. Do not be brand blind.


Also, sales are commission driven !!!! And yes, 10yrs ago if you made less than 10K a month your job was on the line. Nowdays, I would expect it to be 20-25K. Remember that the salesman will sell what he wants, not what you need.


Anyway, mattress protection is important. Ask to have it Masterguarded. The number 1 reason why warranties/guaranties do not get honoured is due to soiled mattresses. Read the warranty/guarantee conditions about this. A scuff mark from your shoe is considered soiled! Never mind passion patches. The Masterguard helps to prevent them. Mattress protectors are great but you need two - one on the bed and the other in the wash.


Next: Shop around! Now the wonderful world of bedding makes it near impossible as Dial-A-Bed will have its own "exclusive" range which translates to "You cannot shop around 'cause nobody else stocks these models". The reality is that there are hundreds of Sealy models in SA but they comprise of only a few groups. They might have different names and colours but underneath the material they have the same comfort layers and same spring system.

Get as much info as what you can then approach other stores. House & Home has the best Sealy deals - I always lost a quote to them.

Your budget allows you to buy a good mattress. Anything more expensive is either a slightly better spring system or more expensive covering (my previous mattress was R5K more than the model below. Only difference was the expensive covering. Same spring system, same comfort layers).

Lastly: Size dose count. You never mentioned size so saying R5K means nothing. But you are lucky that in your price range Queen size (152cm) is the same or only a few randts more thean Double (137cm). Also Extra-Length (200cm) is the same price as Standard-Length(188cm).

I'm short (1,67cm) yet I sleep on an extra-length Queen size bed. Its way more comfortable. Many people falsely believe hotel beds are better quality but its more to do with their size (Extra Length Queen). BTW, Lost City uses King Koil.

Also remember to rotate your mattress once a month. Impossible to do so I use to always say do it when you change you sheets (hopefully once a week) - also a reason why hotel beds feel better is due to them being religiously rotated each week.

Not at Furn City, I worked for these guys (sister company to Dial-A-Bed) and my salary was R2,5K in the HiFi department. After my first paycheck (and I was use to a slightly better salary from Dial-A-Bed) I told them to sod off. Went to go work at the SPUR for a few months instead and made way more than R2,5Kpm.

Countries top earning FurnCity salesman was taking in 16K in 2003, same year a 19yr old chick at our Dial-A-Bed branch was making 20K, where the top guys where earning 35K.

EDIT: There are times where I just want to quiet IT and go back to sales.

I need a new bed too

Well i bought my bed from Dial-a-bed , had no issues but it was a special. If you're going to buy something like a Sealy , then shop around, ask about delivery costs and buy it the cheapest. It's not like these bed companies are very "exclusive" . Besides how much "after sales" service do you need on a bed?

I guess only thing you need to look out for is whether the company can actually honor these 10 year + warranties that they put on their beds.

As for size of the bed, i'd also say get a Queen and be done with it, even if you're sleeping alone on it . It's a good size for all purposes. (assuming you have space). I'd only get a single bed if it's in a guest room and not used on a permanent basis.

Try Dynamic bedding and IMO stay away from springs. I saw the rest o’ pedic ( the one we bought after our last spring bed lasted 2 years ) Is R 5000. I would never ever sleep on springs again.
We also have a longer warrantee and the bed is already treated. We did not buy the most expensive bed.

I stand to be corrected - but I think that at the moment Dial a Bed is having a special of R3999 on a whole range of queen size beds.

Please read your warranty card 100 times. No bed will be honoured after 5yrs as it will be deemed soiled as even a Masterguarded bed will eventually get some marks! Talking from experience.

Also, 90% of claims where not defects but negligence (jumping on beds; not rotating; sitting on them; etc)

The remaining 10% will show signs of defects within 6mths (most likely 3mths). But once again, if your mattress is soiled then no claim.

Craziness

This whole bed-buying thing got me going because I've been sleeping on a futon for the past three months. So I went to Furniture City yesterday; ended up choosing a bedroom suite, so had take the mattress separately - all this on credit, that I was going to initially purchase in cash, at the end of this year.

Anyway, the saleslady called me this morning to tell me that not only was it approved but that they approved me for credit of . . . wait for for it . . . a staggering R100 000 :wtf:

Uhm . . . thank you very much, but I will just be taking the bed thanks.

FurnCity are hardup for credit business. They have also offered me R100K in credit and thats just because I worked for them 7yrs back for a month.

I vowed to myself never to buy furniture on credit, I never had and never will. All these furniture stores are sharks, sharks I tell you.
