Hey I see pcformat is selling unshaped 20gig account for R200 has anybody tried them for wow yet?

http://www.pcflive.co.za/

don't say unshaped there, but in the new pcformat , its written unshaped for gaming and business usage including p2p etc.

From the About block:

The Lite ADSL product is a hard cap, fiber-based, consumer-shaped ADSL product, optimised for home users. Consumer shaping means that traffic important to home users such as peer-to-peer, gaming and large downloads are unshaped.

yeah thats what the pcformat sed :)

should be better option for wow , at this price its a steal.

I agree, having been shopping around for a good ISP for WOW,esp for one which is unshaped since I play on US, I'm seriously considering Pcflive. Not only one of my must have magz every month, but the pricing perGb is very competitive. Just wonder if they will increase their 4mb adsl lines to 10mb this month at the same price? Will post back here when I have more info.

If Anyone has experienced their service, please feel free to inform :D

Which backbone are they using. Seacom is a bit of lame duck.

Webafrica

I suggest Webafrica normal accounts for EU wow (+ smoothping for an ultimate experience).

my frined bought the 50gig for R450 a while back , but he does not game , other then that he sed its fine, still need someone to test wow, sadly i think they use seacom :(

I just contacted Pcflive today and they said they use the Seacom cable. Why is it that people shun Seacom? I've been living in New Zealand for the last couple of years before returning to S.A and have never tested an ISP that uses Seacom. I've read that it was down a couple of times, but isn't it still worth it when you get UNshaped p2p,gaming,Voip,http,ftp etc etc? Does anyone have experience with unshaped seacom i.r.t Latencies in WOW-US ? I play on the Vengeance battlegroup (Saurfang) which is located in Los Angeles and I don't really wanna move to EU servers atm.

Yeah, Seacom takes a longer router than SAT3 (WACS later on will be better too), thus higher latencies, not to mention the fact that it is very unstable, ie. broke numerous times just in the last 2 months alone...

Well thanx guys, seems i'd rather go with WebAfrica then! :D

-Edit-

I just got an email from them as well, stating the following:

[my questions to pcflive]

Hi there

I am looking into using Pcflive as ISP in the near future and need some information:

1:What Backbone do you guys use? ( i.e Seacom, Sat3) (Looking for low latencies for online gaming)

2:The 4mb line you guys provide (presumably from Telkom) , will it be upgraded to a 10mb line this month when Telkom makes this service live, AND will it still be at the same price?

3: How long will it take for my internet connection to be up and running should I sign up with pcflive? (including a 4mb adsl line with you guys)

4: Does Pcflive have a online local downloading site where I can download data for ''free'' (costing no bandwith, or using local bandwith), i.e Game patches for World Of Warcraft ?

Your quick response will be much appreciated

Regards

[their reply]

Dear client
answers to your questions :
1> both Seacom is primary Backbone and Sat3 is for redundancy
2> if you are if you fall in the areas where the experimentations are done then you will have the speed ant the same price
3>if you don't have a existing adsl channel on your landline already it takes about 3-4 weeks for the line to convert to adsl
4>no

Kind regards

So with them using Sat3 for redundancy, does that mean they prioritize gaming over the Sat3 cable? The service rep over the phone wasn't able to tell me :/ lol

Er no, They use Seacom and when it goes down (as it seems to often do) they make use of very limited Sat3.

The word bandwith is being mis-used a lot these days

The misinformation in this thread is staggering, the latency difference between a seacom unshaped account and a sat3 unshaped account is negligible. You can expect almost zero difference.

EDIT: I will be testing this from the beginning of next month and I will compare it with a SAT3 unshaped account.

Nookie you are right. its allot closer these days.

I personally get a very solid 240-250ms from my proxy & WA normal, shaped. What I like about them is its very stable and from casting latency its always stable @ that number.
From IS (seacom) + proxy acct I get +- 280ms but its not exactly as stable. It jumps around a bit more and as we know seacom goes down allot still.

Thanks Nookie, that should clear things up.

Is this to US or EU servers SnowWar?

Must agree when the cable is up and working i get a stable 250 - 300ms using lowerping
